Question from Theballadsosoft (21:22, 3 October 2024)
How do I mark a page that is in need of edits? Like, there's that bar at the top of some pages that says something like "needs citations" or "Page is written like its an advertisement:"
How do I add those recommendations/tags (I don't think they are called tags but that is the closest thing I can think of to call them) --Theballadsosoft (talk) 21:22, 3 October 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @Theballadsosoft, these template messages (also called maintenance tags, cleanup tags, cleanup messages) can be placed like any other template. If you're using source editor, insert the template right after the hatnote and before everything else, remembering to use curly brackets (as in
{{more citations needed}}
) instead of square brackets that are for links. If you're using visual editor, you can open the "Insert" dropdown and click "Template", then you can fill out the information and insert the template where the cursor is at. You can find more information and a list of such templates at Misplaced Pages:Template index/Cleanup. Liu1126 (talk) 07:17, 4 October 2024 (UTC)

Question from Fallguy21 (22:53, 5 October 2024)
Hi there, I have a story that i want to share that will inspire millions of people I do have newspaper and Television news footage of my story, I fell 232 feet from a building back in 1990 and i was waist down paralyzed, I now walk that's my truthful story. can you help me share my inspiring story please and thank you. --Fallguy21 (talk) 22:53, 5 October 2024 (UTC)
Question from Techlege77 on Trent Harris (14:15, 7 October 2024)
hi, very new to this and having read through the page i'm having trouble picking out the subjective wording. any general tips for a newbie editor or specifically on this page what i should be on the lookout for? many thanks :) --Techlege77 (talk) 14:15, 7 October 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @Techlege77, the tag was placed in 2020 and the article has improved quite a lot over the years, so I've removed the tag. In general, the identification of subjective wording is, ironically, quite a subjective process itself, but if you see an article sounding like an advertisement, or appear to be praising the subject without attributing the praise to a specific source, that's probably inappropriate language. This is explained in a bit more detail at MOS:PUFFERY. Feel free to ask or discuss with other editors if there're any cases you're unsure about. Liu1126 (talk) 14:26, 7 October 2024 (UTC)
- great, thanks for the info! Techlege77 (talk) 14:32, 7 October 2024 (UTC)
Question from Sam.tr.99 (09:15, 11 October 2024)
Hello , just started here, but i would like to create from zero , at least a draft of a japanise car company(they do modifications on luxury brands), because this page doesn't exist yet.Do you know if i am allowed to do it? --Sam.tr.99 (talk) 09:15, 11 October 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @Sam.tr.99, you are certainly allowed and welcome to create new articles. The easiest way to do this is by using the Misplaced Pages:Article wizard. It will help you create a draft page on which you can prepare your article. When you're done you can submit the draft for review, and if it passes review it will be posted to mainspace for everyone to see. Good luck! Liu1126 (talk) 09:25, 11 October 2024 (UTC)
Question from Sabio Viejo (01:28, 16 October 2024)
Hello! How do I create a page for my friend's band? Thank you. --Sabio Viejo (talk) 01:28, 16 October 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @Sabio Viejo. Firstly, you should check if your friend's band satisfies the general notability guideline and the subject specific notability guideline for bands. Then, you can use the Misplaced Pages:Article wizard to help you create a draft and submit it for review. This is both because you are a new editor and because you may have a conflict of interest. When writing your draft, please keep in mind the Manual of Style and the verifiability policy. Good luck! Liu1126 (talk) 09:23, 16 October 2024 (UTC)
Question from W0lsZcZ4n (09:53, 16 October 2024)
Hi, thanks for the offer! I've been wondering for a while now, as I am trying to translate a few articles from English to my native language, but for as far as i see, the non-english articles are somewhat lacking, so I don't really believe that translation is the origin of those. Personally during my everyday use i turn to English article versions due to their vastly more extensive scope, and I'd like to see other language versions closer to those, and I'm wondering why is that not the case, and if there are maybe some legal restrictions that might be causing that. --W0lsZcZ4n (talk) 09:53, 16 October 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @W0lsZcZ4n, variations in article quality across different language editions may have many causes: differing editorial standards, the number and quality of editors, availability of sources in that language, etc. Legal restrictions may very well be one factor (see Censorship of Misplaced Pages for past examples), but the Wikimedia Foundation does its best to prevent government institutions from interfering with article content. A recent example was the 2024 Kolkata rape and murder article, where despite the Indian Supreme Court issuing a take down order for the name and photo of the victim, the Foundation deferred to the community RFC instead of forcefully removing the content. Question from Lawcole (05:48, 20 October 2024)
Hello, I would like to be featured on Misplaced Pages as a prominent African educator with over 40 years of work experience at the UN and other international organizations such as the African Development Bank and the African Union. But there is an issue here of conflict of interest. My name is Lawalley Aba Cole or simply Lawalley Cole. Checking me on google can do a good article for Misplaced Pages. --Lawcole (talk) 05:48, 20 October 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @Lawcole, unfortunately, after searching on Google (and excluding social media sites like Facebook and LinkedIn), I do not believe that you would satisfy the general notability guideline or the subject specific notability guidelines for people and academics. These sources, even if presumed reliable and independent, regrettably do not describe you in sufficient detail. Even after inspecting all these sources, I have failed to gain any information beyond the facts that you are the Executive Director of CAFOR and you have a long experience in education (also fairly vaguely described), which would barely sustain a stub class article anyway. If you still believe that you are notable and have other available sources, you may submit a draft of your article through the articles for creation process, which is best done using the Misplaced Pages:Article wizard. Liu1126 (talk) 10:16, 20 October 2024 (UTC)
- I have already sent this article. Please advice me if there are problems. LAWALLEY ABA COLE – SUMMARY PROFILE

- I'll be frank here, this reads too much like a resume. It is filled with peacock terms (influential, distinguished, boasts, progressively responsible, illustrious, prominent, etc.; and that's just from the first two paragraphs), and is completely unsourced (see WP:BLPSELFPUB for rules on using yourself as a source, but even then the information still has to be actually publicly published). While some articles do have external links sections or bibliographies, your list of speeches, publications and links are overly extensive. I recommend that you read the Manual of Style and the verifiability policy before redrafting your article. Liu1126 (talk) 17:44, 20 October 2024 (UTC)
- Okay, thanks. This was what I will call a very basic preliminary draft that needed to be refined to become an article that would match Misplaced Pages standards. I will certainly read the documents you recommend. 196.191.223.170 (talk) 20:11, 20 October 2024 (UTC)

Question from AvidObserver (09:29, 21 October 2024)
Hi Liu,
I have been given you as a mentor. I hope you are well and firstly thank you for your time. I want to give you a perspective into my journey so you can appropriately prepare for any time or work required from you. Thus creating an immediate respect for your time.
I am simply on a journey of learning, my habit is reviewing science, history, economics and technology information. The material is quite diverse. I would like to try sharing the knowledge, one of my early lessons is, if you can teach something you will never forget it.
I want to be able to host vast amounts of knowledge personally. A bit of an addiction. I would in that spirit appreciate any and all knowledge you can provide.
Speak whenever you have a chance, I appreciate it. --AvidObserver (talk) 09:29, 21 October 2024 (UTC)

How do I change the page name --300000kmoersecond (talk) 14:43, 26 October 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @300000kmoersecond, since you asked this question from your userpage, I presume you're referring to your userpage's title? If you want to change your username, you can request a rename at Misplaced Pages:Changing username. If you just want to change your userpage's displayed title without changing your username, you can do so using the
{{DISPLAYTITLE:}}
magic word (see WP:DISPLAYTITLE for more information; note that this doesn't actually change the page's name, it just changes what is displayed as the title). Liu1126 (talk) 16:50, 26 October 2024 (UTC)

Hey, I'm just trying to add images that I've already uploaded to wiki commons into my article. Can't seem to do it. --Baldheadedassassin (talk) 10:33, 27 October 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @Baldheadedassassin, please check that you have added all necessary elements of the extended image syntax, including the pipes and the double square brackets. In your first attempt to add an image to your userpage, you only used a single closing square bracket.
- On another note in relation to your userpage, please read Misplaced Pages:Autobiography and the list of acceptable uses of userpages. Excessive autobiographies inside userspace may be deleted under the U5 criterion of speedy deletion. Liu1126 (talk) 11:11, 27 October 2024 (UTC)
Question from IvanTimofeev01 (13:47, 5 November 2024)
Can I make a fictional page of a fictional character? --IvanTimofeev01 (talk) 13:47, 5 November 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @IvanTimofeev01, the determining criteria for whether a subject, fictional or not, deserves an independent article is its notability. To quote the general notability guideline: "A topic is presumed to be suitable for a stand-alone article or list when it has received significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject." So for example, well known fictional characters that have been discussed in numerous sources, like The Doctor, James Bond (literary character), Sherlock Holmes, etc, do have their own articles. Less notable characters that are part of independently notable fictional works may be described in less detail in the article of the fictional work, like the the Main characters section of The Chronicles of Narnia. For articles about people specifically, a stricter set of rules at Misplaced Pages:Biographies of living persons also apply. You can also determine the notability of the subject using the subject specific notability policy for persons in addition to the general notability guideline. Question from Filmpassion6 (10:47, 13 November 2024)
Why is some one trying to attribute the title 'Naidu' to one caste, despite there is a history of more than 1000 years of the title Naidu and several castes are found to be using it??? Why is such editing's with fake information allowed??? --Filmpassion6 (talk) 10:47, 13 November 2024 (UTC)
- @Filmpassion6, can you give a specific example of the issue? Any information on Misplaced Pages needs to be supported by reliable sources; please check if the current claim in the article is supported by cited reliable sources, and if your counterclaim is also supported by such sources. Additionally, in case you're not aware, caste-related articles are currently under the "South Asian social groups" community-authorised discretionary sanctions regime; please take extra care to follow Misplaced Pages's various policies and guidelines and any possible page-specific editing restrictions. However, a few miscreants are trying to own it selfishly to their caste are deleting the evidence & links that I have given without even explaining why they are doing so. - I have partially reverted your last edit to Naidu. You used multiple unreliable sources, including Misplaced Pages itself, in the second half of your edit. In your second paragraph, asides from the usage of unreliable sources, you also were drawing conclusions from those sources that are not explicitly state, which is considered original research and hence prohibited. Finally, the language in your edit summary amounts to a personal attack on a certain group of people. Repeated or egregious personal attacks may lead to sanctions including blocks or even bans. Otherwise, I have no comment on the content itself, as this is not my primary field of editing. You are encouraged to seek discussion and consensus on the article's talk page.
