== Dáil constituencies and European constituencies ==

Should the infobox for Dáil constituencies include a link to European constituencies? They are only indirectly connected, both being defined by reference to counties or cities, rather than to each other. They are nearly always aligned, but there can the very rare misalignment: parts of County Tipperary were in the Offaly Dáil constituency but in the South EP constituency for a time between 2016 and 2019; further back, there was the Longford–Roscommon Dáil constituency at a time when EP constituencies were based on provinces. On the other hand, it’s a handy cross-reference, doesn’t take up much space, such mismatches are rare, and can be noted if they arise. ] (]) 09:54, 3 October 2024 (UTC)

Election aftermath

Just looking at Category:Constituency Teachtaí Dála navigational boxes, in view of the impending next Irish general election. BrownHairedGirl did some sterling work on setting up those templates from scratch, but she's now blocked. I'm wondering, do we know enough about how the templates work to update their contents properly after the election? Bastun 21:22, 23 October 2024 (UTC)

It's automatic. Once the table in the section named TDs is updated in the relevant constituency article, then the navbox gets updated too. For example, Kathleen Funchion was elected as an MEP in June 2024. The table on Carlow–Kilkenny (Dáil constituency) was updated with a vacant seat to reflect this. If you look at Kathleen Funchion's article and expand the Carlow–Kilkenny constituency navbox, you will see the updated version with vacant in it. Spleodrach (talk) 14:49, 24 October 2024 (UTC)
Excellent! I did recall there was some automation, but I'd forgotten just how much! Cheers, Bastun 21:26, 24 October 2024 (UTC)

Alarming development

The Wikimedia Foundation is considering disclosing identifying private information about Indian volunteer editors to the Delhi High Court. There is a petition to the Foundation objecting to this dangerous and frightening precedent with potential long-term implications for all editors, if you wish to sign it.
