With AVN and XBIZ it is important to distinguish hard news reporting in the voice of the newsroom from republished press releases (see ]). Misplaced Pages insists that sources be intellectually independent of the subject (performer or studio). As reputable mainstream media tends to shun pornography, we the editors are often left with only promotional sources. Unless reliable media, independent of the porn industry, acknowledges the significance of the awards, such awards are promotional fluff. That has been the consensus since 2019. Porn nominations were deprecated ten years ago, as AVN grants 15 nominees per category (something for every studio).
