The De La Salle Green Archers and Lady Archers are the varsity teams representing De La Salle University in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines, among other leagues. The "Green Archer" is the university's traditional mascot. While the university's teams are collectively referred to as the Green Archers and Lady Archers, each team also has a specific moniker based on the sport. At the high school level, the university is represented by the Zobel Junior Archers and Lady Junior Archers, the varsity program of De La Salle Zobel.

Athletic history

De La Salle College (DLSC) was a founding member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) in 1924. Irish-American Br. Celba John Lynam, FSC, organized the first De La Salle sports teams. The colors green and white were chosen as the official La Salle colors; green was inspired by the national color of Ireland, while white represents the Philippines. The pre-war NCAA consisted of De La Salle College, San Beda College, University of the Philippines, University of Santo Tomas, Institute of Accounts (now Far Eastern University), National University, Ateneo de Manila and University of Manila.

The De La Salle basketball players were first called the "Green Archers" during the NCAA Season 16 (1939–40) basketball games, where De La Salle upset their eventual archrival Ateneo for their first seniors' division basketball championship. News reporters covering the games coined the name, reportedly due to the players' accurate shooting. The De La Salle Alumni Association (DLSAA) has three official Green Archer mascots: Gordo, Flaco, and Sally. The DLSU Green Archer statue in the central plaza was created by Ed Castrillo in 1985 and first exhibited during the Diamond Jubilee celebration in 1986.

De La Salle participated in the NCAA for 57 years, winning five NCAA General Championships (1972–73, 1974–75, 1976–77, 1977–78, and 1980–81), before withdrawing after the 1980–81 NCAA Season. The high school team was represented by the Greenies of De La Salle College High School until 1968, when the high school moved to the La Salle Green Hills (LSGH) campus. The Greenies won two General Championships under DLSC. LSGH, established in 1959, continued as the high school counterpart and won eight NCAA General Championships until La Salle's withdrawal in 1981.

From 1981 to 1985, the school participated in the Philippine Integrated Colleges and Universities Athletic Association (PICUAA), invitational meets, interclub tournaments, and the National Open. De La Salle University (DLSU) joined the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) in 1986. De La Salle Zobel (DLSZ) became their UAAP Junior counterpart, adopting the Junior Archers moniker. LSGH later became the high school team for De La Salle–College of Saint Benilde in the NCAA when Benilde joined in 1998. Since joining the UAAP, DLSU has won three UAAP General Championships: Season 75 (2012–13), Season 76 (2013–14), and Season 78 (2015–16). Notable Lasallian athletes and alumni are inducted into the DLSAA Sports Hall of Fame.
