Philip Zecher (born November 22, 1967) is an American investment professional and nuclear physicist. He is the Chief Investment Officer (CIO) at Michigan State University (MSU), managing the university's endowment. Zecher has worked in risk analytics, hedge fund management, and academic finance.
Education
Zecher earned a Bachelor of Science in physics from Ohio University and completed a PhD in nuclear physics at Michigan State University in 1996.
Career
In 1999, he co-founded Investor Analytics, a company that provided risk advisory services for hedge funds and institutional investors, utilizing software-as-a-service technology.
Zecher was a Partner and Chief Risk Officer at EQA Partners, a Stamford, Connecticut-based currency hedge fund. His responsibilities included implementing quantitative models for financial risk management.
In 2016, he was appointed as Michigan State University's first Chief Investment Officer. He established the investment office and developed strategies for managing the university's endowment.
In September 2024, Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont appointed Zecher as Chair of the Connecticut Investment Advisory Council. In this role, he advises the state treasurer on investment policies related to pension funds and other state-managed assets.
