The Ritz-Carlton, Tianjin, located at 167 Dagu North Road, Heping District, Tianjin, officially opened on October 18, 2013. Situated in the core area of Xiaobailou and the Tianjin English-style Cultural District, within the boundaries of the former British concession of Tianjin, the hotel is built on the site of Gordon Hall. A small section of the original Gordon Hall remains integrated into the hotel’s structure. This has led to occasional misidentification by unprofessional media outlets, mistaking the hotel as the original Gordon Hall.

During the development of the Tai’an Road Five Courtyard Project in Tianjin, the Fourth Courtyard was designated as a hotel and apartment complex. In 2009, architectural planning for the hotel began. By 2013, construction was completed, and on October 18 of the same year, The Ritz-Carlton, Tianjin officially opened. On December 14, 2023, the property rights of The Ritz-Carlton, Tianjin were sold via auction to an undisclosed buyer under the pseudonym H5219, marking a transfer of ownership.

Architecture

The main structure of The Ritz-Carlton, Tianjin is part of the Tai’an Road Five Courtyard Project, developed by Tianjin Real Estate Group. The architectural design was led by architect Zhao Chunshui of the Tianjin Urban Planning and Design Institute. French design firm Pierre-Yves Rochon handled the interior design, while Japanese firm Strickland was responsible for the design of the restaurants and bars.

During the architectural planning, the design preserved parts of the Gordon Hall Fire Station annex, integrating it into the overall structure of the hotel.

The Ritz-Carlton, Tianjin was an asset of the Tianjin Real Estate Group, operated by the Ritz-Carlton Division of Tianjin Tianfang Hotel Management Co., Ltd. Due to the debt crisis faced by Tianfang Group, its subsidiaries, including Tianfang Commercial (Tianjin) Co., Ltd., Tianfang Construction Engineering Co., Ltd., and Tianjin Fangxin Building Materials Technology Co., Ltd., used the property rights of The Ritz-Carlton, Tianjin as collateral for loans from commercial banks. When the loans matured, the group failed to repay them, leading to the property rights being managed by the Tianjin branch of China Cinda Asset Management Company, which specializes in handling non-performing assets. However, the hotel's operations remain unaffected by the debt-related issues.
