Calatola costaricensis is a lower story rainforest tree up to 49 feet (fifteen meters) in height. It is in the family Metteniusaceae. It is found from southern Mexico to northern South America. It is notable for the size of its deeply sculpted seeds; up to three inches (seven cm) in length by about two inches (five cm) wide.
