ArbCom 2024 Elections voter message

Hello! Voting in the 2024 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 2 December 2024. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Misplaced Pages arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2024 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:16, 19 November 2024 (UTC)

A beer for you!

Tony. A beer for you. Hope you are well. Drmies (talk) 02:49, 20 November 2024 (UTC)
Drmies, thanks for leaving this. Glad to see there's people around who still think of me. Hope you and your family are doing well and have a great holiday season :) TonyBallioni (talk) 17:48, 23 November 2024 (UTC)
Absolutely, old friend and colleague. I hope you're doing well. Wait. Did I see you edit Bolano? DYK that once upon a time I taught 2666? One of the greatest novels ever. Drmies (talk) 00:02, 24 November 2024 (UTC)
Bolaño is my favorite author. I'm making my way through 2666 in Spanish now - one of the things that makes him such a master of Spanish prose is his unique ability to use the exact word he means to in every situation. The other thing that's interesting in 2666 from the Spanish prose perspective is because of the unique circumstances of his life, his writing style changes depending on the geography of where he's writing about/the nationality of the characters. In Mexico he writes using Mexican vocabulary. In Spain, he writes like a Spaniard, the Chilean characters speak chileno etc. Its a work of art on so many levels.Re: his article, yes, I was going to try to update his article a bit by translating from the es.wiki article on him( es:Roberto Bolaño.) Main problem is that a lot of the sources are print that aren't easily available in the US and I didn't want to introduce content I didn't have the ability to verify (in part because I'd be translating a summary into a summary in another language, and I feel like there's too much room for error there, even though my Spanish is professional level.) Risto hot sir

Hello, you blocked risto hot sir (talk · contribs) on 2019 with a reason of "Personal attacks, inability to get the point, blocks on four other wikimedia projects suggest AGF has run out a while ago", they were active for years and currently on more projects, and I decide to submit a global ban request against them. Is there any circumstances for your first block against them on this project? Thank you. -Lemonaka 07:16, 1 December 2024 (UTC)

Lemonaka, honestly I don’t remember much of that from more than 5 years ago. I know they’re a sockmaster still, but can’t provide much more context, I’m afraid. TonyBallioni (talk) 19:21, 15 December 2024 (UTC)
I'm not Tony, but he is already globally banned, I thought? GRINCHIDICAE🎄 19:40, 15 December 2024 (UTC)

A cheeseburger for you!

to go with the beer from Drmies. I've been away for a couple of years and on my return I'm dismayed to see that RfA has never changed its spots. I thought that the new monitoring policy was designed to reduce the toxicity, not stoke it. I stand by your comments and I'm glad to see you're still around. It's been a long time. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 01:19, 16 December 2024 (UTC)

Good to see your plain speaking again TB. And you haven't lost the art of cutting to the chase. Kudpung's right though, WP:MONITOR is slowly—not yet, but gradually—looking like a tool for "civilty policing" rather than honest brokering. SerialNumber54129 11:30, 16 December 2024 (UTC)
The removal drew more attention to it than the comment would have gotten initially so there’s that. My bigger concern is that they’re just ignoring the emerging consensus that my comment didn’t violate any policy. I took it to their talk page and we’ll see how it goes. Not worth taking to AN, but a big enough concern that it’s worth asking about it on their talk. TonyBallioni (talk) 12:16, 16 December 2024 (UTC)
