Revolution Wind is a utility-scale offshore wind farm under construction on the Outer Continental Shelf Offshore Rhode Island that will provide a total of 704 MW of energy, 400 MW to Rhode Island and 304 MW to Connecticut. It is set to be completed in 2026.

The wind farm will consist of 65 Siemens Gamesa 11.0-200 DD turbines each providing 11 MW. It is located approximately 18 miles southeast of Point Judith on the Rhode Island mainland and 15 miles east of Block Island where the Block Island Wind Farm is located. It will create enough energy to power 350,000 homes. The onshore transmission substation is being built at Quonset Point in North Kingstown, Rhode Island.

History

In 2013, the lease area for Revolution Wind and South Fork Wind was sold to Deepwater Wind. The lease was later split into two different areas with Revolution Wind remaining in area OCS-A 0486. Deepwater Wind has since been acquired by Orsted and become Orsted US Offshore Wind. The project was originally a joint venture with Eversource, however, their share of the project was sold to Global Infrastructure Partners on September 30, 2024.

Rhode Island state regulators approved the project in 2019. On November 17, 2023 the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management(BOEM) approved the final construction and operations plan.

The first foundation was laid in May 2024. and the first turbine was installed on September 3, 2024.
