Copy edit issues and queries

  • There is dup linking in the infobox.
  • Yeah I know. I've removed it/them a couple of times but people keep adding them back.
Still there. Eg, all of the deputies are linked, then the same people are linked again under "succeeded by". Open Vlaamse Liberalen en Democraten is linked in the heading "Leader of the Open Flemish Liberals and Democrats" and again in "Political party: Open Flemish Liberals and Democrats" etc.
  • I know and they probably will re-add it again if they would be removed. But it is part of MOS so they should go away.
  • There is dup linking in the lead.
  • Where exactly can you point it out for me?
Do you not have the tool? Ha! I think that I then removed it in the copy edit. Sorry.
  • Which tool?
  • Would you like commas after initial dates or not? The article is currently inconsistent.
  • I believe most of the dates have commas so let's follow them.
  • Should it be "Open VLD" or "the Open VLD"?
  • I think it depends on the sentence and context. If we are talking about a title after the proper noun then yes I think it should have an article. For instead "the Open VLD chairman Rutten decided to change the name of the party." because it sounds like a noun. But if we are talking about sentences like "Open VLD has won the 2019 elections" as an example then I don't think we should use an article but it could also be optional so not sure which one I should pick. Of course I could be wrong.
I will go with your preference, but in the UK or the US there would always be an article: the Labour Party; the Republicans etc. They would only be missed in something like a newspaper headline - Democrats Surge to Victory - which is not expected to be grammatically correct. Gog the Mild (talk) 11:56, 6 October 2020 (UTC)
  • I mean if you believe it always should be written with an article then go for it. It's just, my Dutch in my head holding it back. It doesn't feel natural in my English even though it might be a rule in English.

Hi CPA-5, I have done a first run through. If you could get back to me on the last two points above I will do a second, more detailed run through. Cheers. Gog the Mild (talk) 20:57, 5 October 2020 (UTC)

    • Who is Herman?
  • His father which is mentioned in the "Early life and career" section.
    • This does not make sense. Does it mean that he takes part in a formal equestrian event once each year?
  • That's correct.

Dellai Affair

To avoid further edit wars, I wanted to try to reach a consensus here about how to include this topic. I think it is clear that it ought to be included due to the extensive, international, mainstream coverage that it has attracted and its apparent impact on De Croo's inability to form a government for so long. Any other thoughts? Iloveapphysics (talk) 20:18, 1 September 2021 (UTC)

The fellow edit-warring seems to object to adding the material to Personal Life but not to the Prime Minister section. If that is the issue I agree with it and moved my edits from the first section to the second, with some other small modifications. Sesquivalent (talk) 22:28, 2 September 2021 (UTC)
It now seems "they" (blocked user and apparent sock) object to any use of the August 2021 article as "tabloid" and maybe only know how to revert. Sesquivalent (talk) 23:20, 2 September 2021 (UTC)
I agree that it makes the most sense to include the information in the Prime Minister section since the interest in the chat is related to its impact on the formation of a government, and I made a few clean-up edits in that section. The Corriere della Sera and Politico sources are certainly not tabloids (both are mainstream, quality sources). I will leave judgement of the Dutch source to someone who can read Dutch. Just out of curiosity, why is the woman not named? The Corriere della Sera article features statements directly from her regarding the veracity of the stories. Iloveapphysics (talk) 00:18, 3 September 2021 (UTC)
I removed her name because it appears to be a screen name, and to avoid the possibility of involving Misplaced Pages in self-promotion by an interested party. The specific identity or other information about the woman beyond her occupation is not, so far, relevant to the story or to a page about De Croo. If she becomes a notable figure in her own right that would change. Sesquivalent (talk) 00:28, 3 September 2021 (UTC)

Between this discussion and recent article edit summaries by other users, it looks like there is agreement that IF this material is to be in the article it should be in the Prime Minister section. I don't have any strong opinion about whether it should be in the article in the first place, only that if it is retained, putting anything about it in "personal life" is overly presumptuous, and that it is better not to dwell on the identity of the woman (at this time). Sesquivalent (talk) 00:36, 3 September 2021 (UTC)

Languages spoken

The article says "He is fluent in Dutch and English, as well as French, the native language of his mother." The reference given is a YouTube video in which he is speaking French; this is not proof of his linguistic abilities. Does anyone have a better source? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pmaguire (talkcontribs) 18:01, 17 November 2021 (UTC)

He definitely speaks French well. I've heard him give long interviews on French television. Anyway, here's another source: https://www.politico.eu/article/alexander-de-croo-belgium-new-prime-minister-5-things-to-know/ 2600:1702:6D0:5160:69BF:7A85:485F:CDC6 (talk) 00:15, 26 January 2023 (UTC)

Municipality of Brakel

He was mayor of the municipality of Brakel.

Does anyone here know where to find the exact dates of his mandates ?

I would like to put them in the infobox or someone else do it Anatole-berthe (talk) 04:18, 3 December 2024 (UTC)

Information requiring verification

It is written in the infobox that "Guy Verhofstadt" succeeded him as president of the "Open Flemish Liberals and Democrats".

The version in French language of the same article says in the infobox that his successor was "Gwendolyn Rutten".

So there is an inconsistency. Anatole-berthe (talk) 07:03, 3 December 2024 (UTC)

I thought I found a resolution of this problem.
About "Guy Verhofstadt". It's wrote he was acting leader. It does mean per interim.
I can conclude "Gwendolyn Rutten" was the definitive successor after interim of his predecessor. Anatole-berthe (talk) 16:40, 3 December 2024 (UTC)
