He was the advocate, trustee of Puttur Mahalingeshwara temple, president of municipal council, president of Campco, strong pillar of Puttur Vivekananda Vidyavardhaka Sangha, Puttur MLA and was also known as the ‘Bheeshma’ of BJP. He nurtured several leaders. He protested against the emergency imposed by late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and was imprisoned. He had taught Kannada to L K Advani while in jail. He stayed away from politics after 1985 but was the main think tank of BJP. His opinions were important in the party activities. Urimajalu K. Rama Bhat was an Indian politician who had served as the Member of Karnataka Legislative Assembly from Puttur Assembly constituency for two-terms. He also served as a former chairman of CAMPCO and was a co-founder of Sri Vivekananda College, Puttur. He was the founder member of Bharatiya Janata Party, Karnataka.

He was born into an undivided Havyaka family in Urimajalu near Kabak-Vittal.

He was the advocate, trustee of Puttur Mahalingeshwara temple, president of municipal council, president of Campco, strong pillar of Puttur Vivekananda Vidyavardhaka Sangha, Puttur MLA and was also known as the ‘Bheeshma’ of BJP. A conscience-keeper of the party and a champion of value-based education, Sri Vivekananda College in Puttur founded by him has rolled out thousands of people who are outstanding professionals with sound morals and rich ethics. As a member of the Assembly, Ram Bhat’s speeches were always mature, sober with clarity and courage of conviction

He passed away at his residence in Kombettu near Puttur on Monday. Bhat was 92 and died of age-related illness.
