PTgui is a Windows and Mac OS X panorama photo stitching program developed by New House Internet Services BV. PTgui started as a GUI frontend to Helmut Dersch's Panorama Tools. It currently features its own stitching and blending engine along with compatibility with the original Panorama Tools.
Stitching is accomplished by using several overlapping photos taken from the same location, and using control points to align and transform the photos so that they can be blended together to form a larger image. PTgui has its own control point generator that supports Fisheye lens. Once the control points between each pair of overlapping images are set, PTgui optimizes their relative position to prepare for a seamless stitch. This can be previewed before the actual rendering of the panorama, that is later saved in a standard image format.
As an interesting example for what's possible with this kind of software one of Wikipedias featured picture candidates was edited with the help of PTgui.
