Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.
    Shortcuts

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Red Star Over China (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Someone posted several paragraphs of criticism of Snow's book from Chang & Halliday. The volume was excessive and it ignored the fact that most commentators respect Snow and see his work as useful.

I tried to be constructive, poiting to controversy about Luding Bridge. This was simply ignored.

Someone last month removed a small reference to Chang & Halliday. That wasn't me, I was willing to live with that. But really they are not relevant. --GwydionM 17:10, 4 June 2007 (UTC)

Please take of of protection so i can make changes, there are some very incorrect facts.

I would like to state them:

In the band members section, this should read:

Joel Madden, Lead Vocals Benji Madden, Rhythm Guitar, backing vocals Billy Martin, Lead guitar, keyboard Paul Thomas, Bass guitar Dean Butterworth, Drums

Declined. This page suffers from a high level of vandalism when it's unprotected, if your change is that minor consider proposing it on the talk page. Failing that, create an account. – Steel 19:12, 4 June 2007 (UTC)

    Current requests for unprotection

    Shortcuts

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin on their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page, click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page," which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page, please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected, please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Allison Stokke (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) unprotection

No reason given for protection, no doubt the alleged BLP issues discussed in the recent DRV. But this is now on AfD, where the ability to edit the article as proper sources are found and to respond to issues raised is important. It shoudl be unprotected, or perhaps semi-protected, for the length of the AfD at least. DES 20:49, 4 June 2007 (UTC)

Declined Page was protected less than an hour ago. 2nd, it looks like a sufficient edit war to me. Thirdly, your best bet is to talk to the protecting admin Phil Boswell (talk · contribs) -Royalguard11(Talk·Review Me!) 22:11, 4 June 2007 (UTC)

    {{la|Template:Trivia]] unprotection

Please unprotect Template:Trivia. It has been protected for two weeks, overhastily IMO, for fear of an edit war. Protecting admin has not responded to request on his talk page to unprotect. The template has been spammed across thousands of articles and needs to be edited to comport with WP:TRIVIA and not with the opinions of a few editors who hate trivia sections, and would prefer to use this template to do an end-run so they don't have to work to gain a consensus over at WP:TRIVIA. Thanks - Tempshill 16:50, 4 June 2007 (UTC)

Not unprotected The fact that is used on well over a thousand pages makes it a very high risk and high visibility template. Once you come up with consensus on a wording use {{editprotected}}. Mr.Z-mantalk¢ 17:53, 4 June 2007 (UTC)

Atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) unprotection

An admin who goes by the name of Wwoods protected this page inappropriately in fear of a 3RR vio. I reverted the move of this page for consistency with pages such as Armenian Genocide, and Wwoods did not agree as he thought it was "pov". I invited him to discuss it on the talk page, but he refused to, and kept on blatantly reverting. He only used an edit summary once, which was "rv vandalism", highly inappropriate word usage. My edits were made in good faith, and vandalism is the editing with the sole intent of downgrading the Misplaced Pages, which I did not do. I tried to build consensus, but he wouldn't want to try and come to a constructive solution, and started an edit war. In fear of violating the 3RR, he abused his admin tools to indefprotect the page. Admin tools shouldn't be used for a conflict in which the admin is involved personally; those measures should be left to independent sysops. Also, he chose to template the regulars instead of debating. I request this page to be unprotected so that I can discuss this with the involved editor, and if he continues, he can be blocked for violating the 3RR.
By the way, please let me resolve this with the editor in question, and not here ;-) SalaSkan 18:25, 4 June 2007 (UTC)

Declined. I see no evidence that you tried to build consensus for this; reverting (and protecting) a controversial move of a long-established page was entirely appropriate. – Steel 19:00, 4 June 2007 (UTC)
Aren't "rv, please discuss.", "don't blatantly revert, discuss instead" and "discuss your edits on the talk page please." sufficient? SalaSkan 20:09, 4 June 2007 (UTC)
Go and discuss, then. – Steel 20:10, 4 June 2007 (UTC)
Declined again just to make sure the archival bot picks up on this request. --Deskana (talk) 22:16, 4 June 2007 (UTC)

General relativity (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) unprotection

This page was protected by user:Gnangarra due to an edit war with the fringe editor SteakNShake (talk · contribs). These types of disputes are usually resolved by the fringe editor quickly running afoul of various of Misplaced Pages's policies and procedures, and being blocked and/or banned as a result. The page protection is only paralyzing this process, while also preventing useful edits to the article. --EMS | Talk 20:18, 4 June 2007 (UTC)

Declined, - can you discuss this with User:Gnangarra first, please? - Alison 20:21, 4 June 2007 (UTC)
He has not responded to my request of earlier today. --EMS | Talk 20:41, 4 June 2007 (UTC)
Admins are not at beck and call 24 hours a day, and it hasn't even been 1 day of protection yet. I'm sure you'll get a response tomorrow. -Royalguard11(Talk·Review Me!) 22:06, 4 June 2007 (UTC)

Current requests for significant edits to a protected page

    Shortcut

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Misplaced Pages:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Misplaced Pages:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

Though he cites policy, he is not following proper procedure for AFD. He is acting on his own and not acting in accordance with AFD procedure policy. He is now in an edit war with me -- this can not be allowed per policy. This article was created in good faith a year ago in responce to the original source article being marked for splitting on account of it bing too big. The matter has not been discussed in any way.
