Barats & Bereta is a sketch comedy group that formed in 2003 when Luke Barats and Joe Bereta started collaborating at Gonzaga University in videos they made to amuse friends. These videos eventually made it onto their website and onto YouTube. They were both active in the broadcasting department, theater department and they led the Gonzaga University improv comedy troupe GUTS (Gonzaga University Theatre Sports). They are currently employed at Cornerbooth Film and Video Production and they perform improv with the Spokane division of ComedySportz. Their viral videos have also drawn them the description of internet phenomenon.

History

Barats and Bereta started making videos together in 2003. Receiving good feedback, they posted them on their website and created a YouTube account. Several of the videos have had tremendous success on websites such as CollegeHumor.com and YouTube.

Several of their videos have been featured on the front page of YouTube, and one of their most popular videos, Completely Uncalled For, attracted over 1 million views on its first five days on the site and now has over 4 million views. One of their other most popular videos, Mother's Day has over 3 million views on YouTube.

Television

After a bidding war with networks such as MTV and HBO, NBC signed a one year development deal with Barats and Bereta, with an option for a second year. In 2007 they finished production on "This Is Culdesac", a pilot written, directed, produced, and performed by the comedy team. It was not picked up, although NBC will be airing portions of it.

Awards

For their two-man stand up routine, they won the Brickwall Amateur Comedy Competition in 2005. In the same year, they won first place at the Spokane First Night Film Festival with their short film, "Just Wonderful".
