This page is a list of family members in South Park. This does also include the main characters who are situated with their family here. However this page does not include townsfolk, school staff, the children, minor characters or one-off characters.
The Marsh Family
Randy and Sharon Marsh
Main article: Randy and Sharon MarshRandy and Sharon (originally "Carol") Marsh are the parents of Stan, and his exceptionally violent sister Shelley. Sharon Marsh is a receptionist at Tom's Rhinoplasty and Randy is a geologist. During his younger years Randy was a member of a boy band known for their hit song, "You've got IT, Girl". He tends to be a leader in one of the groups of citizens when they protest or fight each other, usually the side representing the "Democrat" point of view (i.e I'm A Little Bit Country). Randy's part in South Park has also grown in the past few seasons with many story lines about his drinking.
Stan Marsh
Main article: Stan MarshStanley "Stan" Marsh is one of the central characters in the animated television series South Park. Voiced by series co-creator Trey Parker, Stan and Kyle Broflovski often trade places as the 'leader' of the four main characters. Stan is arguably the most normal of the kids, and is generally honest, very mature for his age, and well-meaning. He is somewhat more assertive than his best friend Kyle.
Shelley Marsh
Main article: Shelley MarshShelley is a violent thirteen-year-old with an awkward set of headgear braces. She enjoys watching "Friends", listening to Britney Spears records, dating older men, beating up Stan, and calling him and his friends "turds." Despite the mutual dislike between Shelley and the boys, she and Eric Cartman formed a cease-fire in the episode "Cat Orgy" and get back at Shelly's boyfriend, Skyler, who is twenty-two years old and was only dating her for sex (she refused and he dumped her).
Grampa Marsh
Main article: Grampa Marsh"Grampa" Marvin Marsh is the elderly patriarch of the Marsh family, and lives with the Marsh family. He is 102 years old and confined to a wheelchair. He is somewhat senile and calls Stan "Billy" though this seems to be a family trait as his own flashback showed his grandfather calling him "Billy" as well. He has been referred to as both Sharon's father and Randy's, although more oftenly he is referred to as Randy's.
Jimbo Kern
Main article: Jimbo KernStan's uncle Jimbo Kern, Randy's half brother, represent South Park's large population of stereotypical "hicks". He and his sidekick Ned Gerblansky are obsessed with large trucks, beer, guns, explosions, and killing animals. They detest "liberals" and circumvent anti-hunting laws by yelling "it's coming right for us!", and later "thin out their numbers!" before shooting any animal, thereby justifying the kill as self-defense.
Jimbo and Ned met while in the Vietnam War, where Jimbo was a helicopter pilot.
Aunt Flo
Aunt Flo is the aunt of Sharon Marsh who visited her every month and turned her into a "bitch". She was killed by Stan's goldfish in Spookyfish. (Also refers to the monthly "flow" of the woman and the moodswings of Sharon Marsh in her monthly time. Her death is a reference to the menopause)
The Broflovski Family
Gerald and Sheila Broflovski
Main article: Gerald and Sheila BroflovskiGerald is the father and head of the family. His occupation as a lawyer has given him high status in profile cases such as in episodes like Sexual Harassment Panda,Chewbacca Defence, and Chef Aid.
Sheila is Gerald's wife and the matriarch of the family. She has a thick New York accent and is often noted for her strict adherence to political correctness and strong belief in moral values. Sheila often pushes her son Kyle to "always do the right thing" and abstain from immorality. Viewers can see her strong belief in her principles especially in South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut. She may be a satirization of progressive Jewish feminists (such as Senator Barbara Boxer or Susan Brownmiller). On numerous occasions she has been the subject of Cartman's song "Kyle's Mom is a Big Fat Bitch," which appears on the movie's soundtrack CD.
Kyle Broflovski
Main article: Kyle BroflovskiKyle is the central character in the family. He is one of the show's four main children along with Stan, Cartman, and Kenny (though Butters is currently elevated to main character status since Butters' Very Own Episode). Kyle tends to be the most logical, intelligent, rational, and reasonable boy among the four. He often abstains from certain fads exemplified in Chinpokomon and South Park is Gay!. Kyle and Stan usually are the leaders of the group, they sometimes switch leadership. He is constantly fighting with Cartman and many episodes include their hatred of each other (eg. cartoon Wars Part II where they have a fight scene).
Ike Broflovski
Main article: Ike BroflovskiIke Broflovski is Kyle's adopted baby brother and a Canadian, indicated by his trademark flapping ovoid head. He is the ball in Kyle's game of "Kick the Baby." Ike speaks in baby talk, but sometimes speaks profanely, often due to the influence of his brother. Ike watches "The McNeil-Lehrer NewsHour" weeknights from 10-11 pm and reads John Steinbeck novels contributing to his status as a genius. While in kindergarten Ike lost his virginity to his teacher in the episode "Miss Teacher Bangs A Boy".
Kyle Schwartz
Kyle Schwartz is Kyle Broflovski's irritating, and stereotypically Jewish cousin from Connecticut. He is voiced by Trey Parker. Kyle Schwartz has a goofy looking appearance with a fat head and small mouth. He has heavy breathing due to asthma along with bad eyesight for which he has large glasses.
His first appearance was in "The Entity" when he had to stay with Kyle and his family since his mother was in the hospital.
Due to the Jewish stereotypes that he displayed, his cousin was worried about his anti-semitic friend Cartman, whom he feared would constantly make fun of him. Kyle (Broflovski) then offered Cartman $40.00 not to make fun of Kyle (Schwartz). Cartman initially tried to comply with the agreement, but when Cartman makes a concentration camp joke in class, he blows the deal. Kyle (Schwartz) then stated that Kyle (Broflovski) should have tried to get away with paying him $12.50. Angered by his ingratitude and personal quirks, the boys help Kyle (Broflovski) try to get rid of him. They tried to teach him to sled (they tied the sled to a bus headed for Connecticut), played hide and seek in the airport (and was put in a box and placed on a plane to Antarctica) and left in the woods. He nevertheless kept returning to the Broflovski home. In the end his mother's condition improves, and he decides to go home after receiving $5,000,000 from an investment bailout to the airlines. The boys suddenly see dollar signs and try to convince him to stay, but Kyle Schwartz replied by saying that he couldn't stand how everyone in South Park was a stereotypical hillbilly jock redneck.
Kyle also appears in "Red Sleigh Down", where he calculated how many presents Cartman would get for Christmas (concluding that he would still owe two presents even if he found a cure for cancer and AIDS before Christmas), and "The Losing Edge", where the boys, playing on the South Park baseball team, had to get the worst person they could find (Kyle Schwartz) to play for them because they did not want to qualify for a tournament.
Cleo
Kyle's grandmother and Sheila's mother who died three years before Korn's Groovy Pirate Ghost Mystery. The boys dug her up in an attempt to scare the fifth-graders on Halloween. Kyle often makes remarks reguarding his grandmother. In the episode Ladder to Heaven when the boys attempt to get to heaven, Kyle calls out to his grandma to see if thely have made it yet. Cleo also wanted Kyle to attend Jewleeard, a Jewish academy school as it was pointed out by John Edward in the episode The Biggest Douche in the Universe.
The Cartman Family
Liane Cartman
Main article: Liane CartmanCartman's mom, Liane Cartman, is famous in South Park for being sexually promiscuous. She was at one point the featured model on the cover of Crack Whore Magazine. Young Eric denies this allegation made by Stan and Kyle in many episodes. In South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut, it was revealed that she takes part in German 'scheiße movies'. It was revealed in the episode Cartman's Mom is Still a Dirty Slut, that she is a hermaphrodite, and is actually Cartman's biological father. The identity of Cartman's biological mother has never been revealed.
Eric Cartman
Main article: Eric CartmanEric Cartman, voiced by Trey Parker, is a fictional character in the animated series South Park. He is one of the four central characters. Cartman is arguably the most well-known and recognizable character of South Park. He is extremely rude and self-centered and constantly torments Kyle for being Jewish and Kenny for being poor.
Extended Cartman Family
The extended Cartman family is shown in the episode "Merry Christmas Charlie Manson!", where he and the others go on a trip to Nebraska to visit them for Christmas. Most of his relatives appear to be similar in matter to him; all fat, with the same speech impedement and catchphrases such as "Kickass!" and "RESPECT MY AUTHORITAH!!" "No, *Someones name* that's my Pot pie. No, *Someones Name* that's a Bad *Someones Name*!!!". The family is seen again in the episode "Cartmanland" at his grandmother's funeral — where she leaves her estate (valued at $1,000,000) to Eric, citing that all the other family members would have spent it all on crack. His grandparents' names are Harold and Mabel, has uncles named Howard and Stinky, and a cousin named Elvin.
The McCormick Family
Stuart and Carol McCormick
Main article: Stuart and Carol McCormickThey are Kenny McCormick's Mum and Dad. Carol wears a lime green T' which usually reads "I'm with Stupid", and mucky blue jeans. Stuart wears a greasy jean jacket, a white shirt underneath, filthy jeans, and a red cap which has "Scotch" embroidered on it.
Kenny McCormick
Main article: Kenny McCormickKenneth "Kenny" McCormick', voiced by Matt Stone (and, on one occasion, Mike Judge), is a fictional character in the animated series South Park. He is one of the four central characters, all of whom are nine-year old boys. (The characters were eight years old in the earlier episodes.)
He is well-known for almost always wearing an orange parka, and for being killed in almost every episode during the show's first five seasons (although he seems unconcerned and only hates the fact that nobody cares that he dies), with only a few exceptions. Due to his hood, which covers his mouth in all but a few scenes in the show's history, his lines are muffled, though occasionally they are intelligible, and closed captioning sometimes clarifies his lines. He has only spoken without being muffled on three occasions: South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut, and the episodes The Jeffersons and Lice Capades. When Kenny is scared he tightens his hood.
Kevin McCormick
Little is known about Kevin. He appears to be older than Kenny by a few years and has parted brown hair which sticks up. His voice is provided by Trey Parker and sounds like Bill, Terrance and Fosse, three of Kenny's classmates.
Little Sister?
In "Best Friends Forever" a young girl was seen with the McCormick family visiting Kenny in the hospital. She has no lines and no explanation has ever been given regarding her identity.
The Stotch Family
Stephen and Linda Stotch
Main article: Stephen and Linda StotchStephen and Linda Stotch are Butters' parents. Linda wears a maroon sweater and a calf-length purple skirt and has blonde hair, Stephen wears an olive drab shirt and a distinctive white tie, with a hairstyle similar to a grown-out crewcut.
Butters Stotch
Main article: Butters StotchLeopold "Butters" Stotch (voiced by Matt Stone) has a large tuft of blonde hair on top of his head, and wears an aquamarine jacket with green pants. He speaks with a distinctive, stuttering South Carolina-esque accent, and he is secretly the evil villain of South Park, Professor Chaos. The character is loosely based on South Park director of animation Eric Stough.
Butters is a nervous, naive, unlucky and gullible character. Despite this, he is one of the most optimistic and genuine kids in South Park. Butters draws little respect from his fellow students and is always chosen for dangerous or menial tasks that the others do not want to do. Butters first appeared as a backround supporting character and first emerged as a main character in the fifth season Butters' Very Own Episode as the fourth friend when Kenny died permanently. Since then he was fired as the fourth friend but has remained a prominent character in the series. He still has a close relationship to the other four boys, mainly as Cartman's sidekick and slave.
The Tweak family
Richard and Mrs. Tweak
Tweek's parents run a coffee shop called Tweak Bros. Coffee. It was nearly put out of business by the new business in town, Harbucks (a parody of Starbucks). After a huge feud both businesses learned to work together. The Tweaks are their own product's most devoted fans. Even their son consumes several cups of coffee a day (despite his age), hence his constant twitching and general nervousness. Mr. & Mrs. Tweak claim their son has ADD, when in fact he has a growing dependency on caffeine; Richard often preludes heart-to-heart talks with his son by saying, "calm down, son... here, have some coffee." The parents tend either to oversimplify or to overexaggerate large problems, leading their son to frustrated helplessness when he requires aid or to increased paranoia and fear when he's already obsessing about something. Simply put, whatever Tweek's current abnormal and/or neurotic disposition, his parents serve to exaggerate it.
Mr. Tweak wears a maroon jumper which is his shirt for work (hence the name tag on it) and black trousers. He has a long pointed nose, which suggests Semitic ancestry. Mrs. Tweak wears a blue dress with a white apron. Mr. Tweak has dark curly brown hair. Mrs. Tweak has long light brown hair. Neither parent appears outwardly responsible for their son's straight, blond hair.
Tweek's parents have appeared in several episodes, most notably "Gnomes" and "Child Abduction Is Not Funny." Mr. Tweak is voiced by Trey Parker and Mrs. Tweak has been voiced by Mary Kay Bergman and Eliza Schneider. She is now voiced by April Stewart.
(Tweek Tweak
Main article: TweekTweek Tweak is a hyperactive boy who is always nervous, jittery, paranoid, and usually overdosed on caffeine. He is in the boys' class. For five episodes in season six − "Professor Chaos" through "Child Abduction Is Not Funny" − Tweek was the official fourth friend of the main characters Stan, Kyle, and Cartman.
List of other Families
The Blacks
Token's family. The only African-American family in South Park and also the wealthiest. Cartman always makes fun of Token. Token's last name in the series was originally "Williams."
The Donovans
The family Clyde comes from. It is unclear what the status of the nuclear family is, however Clyde has stated that his father is a geologist (this is in doubt due to Randy Marsh's frequent claims that he is the only scientist in South Park). They were accidentally referred to as the "Harrises" in "Lice Capades", however, this was changed back to Donovan in the later re-airings of the episode.
The Vulmers
The Vulmers, formerly the Swansons, have a son, Jimmy, who suffers from muscular dystrophy. In Krazy Kripples, it is revealed that his parents teased people with disabilities when they were teenagers, and thought that God made their son crippled to teach them a lesson.
The Testaburgers
They have a daughter named Wendy, who has a relationship with the Stan Marsh. In one episode Wendy breaks up with Stan for Token, a member of the richest and only African-American family in South Park.
The Stevens
From what has been shown of Bebe's family, they are very stereotypical. Her mother appears in "Bebe's Boobs Destroy Society," where it is implied that she is rather dumb and managed to get by relying on her looks. In that episode Bebe is quite smart and much more thoughtful than her mother, though she does seem more interested in make-up and boys than Wendy. Bebe's father is briefly seen in "Stupid Spoiled Whore Video Playset."
Craig's Family
Little is known of Craig's family except that he has at least one sibling, and flipping each other the middle finger appear to be the family norm. Craig's family's propensity for flipping each other off has been so ingrained into Craig, who for the first several seasons is implied to have been sent to either the principal's or counselor's office on a daily basis. Craig's father is tall, portly, redheaded, and apparently somewhat influential in the South Park community; he is often depicted to counterpoint Randy Marsh's stances when Jimbo Kern or another character is otherwise indisposed.
Timmy's Family
Timmy's parents are named Richard and Helen, and apparently suffer from the same form of mental retardation as Timmy himself. When they are interviewed on TV, all they can say are their own names, just like their son.
