Curtis is the third studio album by rapper 50 Cent. It is set to be released on September 4, 2007. The album was going to be released in the U.S. on June 26, 2007, however, 50 Cent later stated that he felt he wasn't being fair to his worldwide fans. Therefore, to ensure that the world receives the album at the same time, it will be released on September 4th, 2007.
Initially, 50 Cent told MTV that he wanted to name the album Before I Self Destruct because "it could potentially happen". However, he decided to change the album's title to Curtis S.S.K. instead. The "S.S.K.", which stands for "SoundScan Killa", was intended to show the pressure he feels to succeed. However, once again, the title was changed to just Curtis. It has been reported that he wants to save the initial title (Before I Self Destruct) for his final album on Interscope Records (excluding a possible greatest hits album).
50 Cent confirmed that the album will be just as aggressive as his previous albums Get Rich or Die Tryin' and The Massacre.
In an interview with MTV, producer Jonathan Rotem discussed working with 50 Cent on the new album. Rotem said that 50 Cent was definitely into "soulful stuff".
While on Tim Westwood's show on BBC Radio 1, 50 Cent confirmed that four singles with videos will be released before the album's release date. 50 Cent named the following: "Straight to the Bank", "Amusement Park", "Come & Go", and "Follow My Lead". He also stated that "Straight to the Bank" is the only track that talks about money.
The new single "Amusement Park" was released on May 8, 2007.
The album's cover was released and confirmed by MTV along with multiple other sources.
In an interview with MTV, 50 Cent explains the meaning of the track "AYO Technology", stating that "technology" actually means pornography, and that the chorus ("Aaaayo! I'm tired of using technology, why don't you sit down on top of me? Aaaayo! I'm tired of using technology, I need you right in front of me!") refers to him and Justin Timberlake not wanting to use "technology" (pornography) anymore, instead, they want the girl to be with them.
