Hamstreet, Kent
The village of Hamstreet is located around six miles south of Ashford on the A2070, the main Ashford to Hastings road. The majority of the village is in the parish of Orlestone, named after a much older hamlet located one mile north of Hamstreet on the ridge of hills. However, part of Hamstreet falls within the parish of Warehorne, making the population up to roughly 2,000 and loosely giving it claim to three pubs!
Hamstreet had its moment of fame in 1991, when maps of the village at various stages in history were used on a series of postage stamps to mark 200 years of the Ordnance Survey. This was because the Hamstreet area was the first to be mapped in this way.
The buildings in the village range from the traditional weatherboard high street to more modern residential roads. Hamstreet is surrounded by public woodland and is one mile north of the Royal Military Canal - the UK's third longest defensive structure.
Three long distance footpaths also pass through Hamstreet, and the totally flat nature of Romney Marsh to the south makes it popular with cyclists also. The village also has a station of the Ashford to Hastings railway line.

World Currency Unit
The World Currency Unit is an indexed unit of account that stands for a unit of stable global purchasing power. Proposed by Ho(2000), it was first intended to be the basis for denominating global bonds, a debt instrument that is issued globally and subscribable by people around the world. Since each unit by design represents a stable unit of purchasing power, the stipulated interest rate on WCU-denominated bonds represents a real interest rate. In principle, the common denomination of bonds by issuers from different parts of the world using the WCU will produce more efficient capital markets, as savers and borrowers around the world converge in their understanding of what each basis point of interest means.
Irving Fisher in his 1911 book The Purchasing Power of Money had advised that, to serve as a unit of account, a trusted medium of exchange, and a reliable store of value the purchasing power of money should be stable. Unfortunately, substances that exist by the bounty of nature, such as gold or silver, cannot have such property since their values fluctuate with changing supply and demand.
To be meaningful in terms of stable global purchasing power, a WCU will have to represent a basket of global output. By definition, according to the initial proposal by Ho(2000), the WCU represents the sum of the gross domestic products of key market economies in the world, namely the US, the Euro zone and UK, Japan, Canada, and Australia. Addition of these GDPs, each in a separate currency, is done by converting all GDPs into US dollar values in the base year.
The sum of these GDPs are then scaled down to equal $100 in the base year. The scaling factor then becomes part of the definition of the WCU, as it defines the size of the GDP basket. It is envisaged that every 5 or 10 years, the WCU can be rebased, with the new series using a new base year spliced to the old series using the old base year much like consumer price indices with different base years are spliced to form a continuous series.
The nominal value of this unit will rise with inflation in each economy. Moreover, the nominal value of this unit will rise if the base currency appreciates against the US dollar. Savers who purchase such bonds not only enjoy protection against inflation, but the benefit of diversification of exchange risks.

Student Ecumenical Partnership
The Student Ecumenical Partnership (STEP) is the national college/university student network of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and the United Church of Christ. Its mission is to united and moblize ecumenical college students called by the Gospel of Jesus Christ to oppose injustice and transform dialogue into action. STEP is affiliated with the Council for Ecumenical Student Christian Ministries and the World Student Christian Federation.
STEP was organized in the late 1980s and has been led by a group of volunteer undergraduate students. In the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), STEP is a ministry of Higher Education and Leadership Ministries. In the UCC, STEP is a ministry of Local Church Ministries.
In 2005, the organization conducted a survey of college and high school students at the UCC's General Synod in Atlanta, Georgia, and the Christian Church's General Assembly in Portland, Oregon, as well as online. This poll showed students wanted to see STEP and the denominations take action regarding civil rights and education. STEP also began reviewing curriculum and study materials focused on civil rights to help small groups make better use of limited time and money when exploring these issues. Another project, Campus Chaos, aims to collect different methods for mobilizing students from campus ministries and chaplains across the country.
STEP's web site is www.stepnetwork.org.

Mascot
The mascot of MHS is a black panther, it was originally going to be called "Massaponax Mustangs" but the idea was scrapped and finally became known as the Panthers. The school colors are black and teal but sometimes silver is also used. The use of Panther Pride has become an art at MHS, as coined by the phrase "You Just Can't Hide That Panther Pride" since everyone is naturally good-hearted and most everyone shows school spirit(sometimes without meaning to).

Ornithomancy
Ornithomancy is the practice of Ancient Greek augury of birds. Though mainly regarding the birds' flights and songs, any action of the bird could have been interpreted as a method of foreseeing or foretelling, or could have been interpreted as a message from the gods. These omens were considered with the utmost seriousness by Greeks and Romans alike. This form of divination became one branch of Roman national religion, which had its own priesthood and practice. One notable example occurs in the Odyssey, when thrice an eagle appears, flying to the right, with a dead dove in its talons; this augury was interpreted as the coming of Odysseus, and the death of his wife's suitors.
