Description
This project would aim to clean up and collect articles related to Ukraine, the largest country in Europe not to have its own project.

When is it going to be started?? --Boguslav 17:44, 7 April 2007 (UTC)
Basicly anytime. We already have five users, and perhaps more will come... but let's just wait a little while longer 'till more users come and join. —dima/talk/ 17:51, 7 April 2007 (UTC)
  1. Also, while its good to have a WikiProject, this will likely duplicate the functions of the Ukrainian portal (in some ways), so we should be careful not to do that.. Browsing around portals, I came across the Kent portal, which links the portal and WikiProject together.. and keeps some things specific for portal and some for WikiProject, I would suggest doing that. —dima/talk/ 17:55, 7 April 2007 (UTC)
  2. Another thing, is that there is already a WikiProject Ukrainian subdivisions (although not too active, besides me :), so I think that we can probably somehow incorporate the two WikiProject Ukraine, and Ukraine subdivisions together. What do you guys think? —dima/talk/ 18:02, 7 April 2007 (UTC)
Dima, I like the idea of expansion of the existing project from its narrow scope, rather than reinventing the wheel. Would the members go for it? A nationwide project, rather than one for the geography alone, seems much better to me. Chris 23:23, 7 April 2007 (UTC)
I believe they will go for it. There was a proposal at the project's talk to transform it into a whole-country WikiProject some time ago, and no one besides me responded there, to which I agreed... And if we do that, we can move the current geo-wikiproject to a subpage, like Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Ukraine/Subdivisions, as there is some useful information on that page —dima/talk/ 23:31, 7 April 2007 (UTC)
And there are already six members besides you there, and five more here, let's make this happen! Chris 20:04, 8 April 2007 (UTC)
Well, not all of them are active in the project, but let's start the project page. But as I stated above, we should watch so we won't duplicate the functions of Portal:Ukraine and its subpages... —dima/talk/ 02:54, 9 April 2007 (UTC)

Featured Article Candidates.

Is Kiev concidered a featured article candidate? Shouldn't this be included somewhere in the project?...Please enlighten me, I'm new to Misplaced Pages. Bogdan 01:12, 12 April 2007 (UTC)

It's a former FA candidate. If you're wondering whether an article was/is featured or not, you can always check the article's talk page. :-) — Alex 01:16, 12 April 2007 (UTC)
It wasn't supposed to be listed under FA candidates on WP Ukraine, so you did the right thing by removing it. :-) — Alex 01:17, 12 April 2007 (UTC)

If you are dedicated to "improving Misplaced Pages's coverage of Ukraine", as you assert, you may begin by correcting your usage of the name of Ukraine's capital city: Kyiv, not Kiev. Thx, Jurij

Political userboxes

Friends and colleagues, Misplaced Pages cannot stay away from the political life as some of its articles unavoidably touch the political issues. But let's at least keep politics to the page where they cannot be avoided (like certain articles) and keep the project and portal as universally appealing to people of all political backgrounds as possible. We all support Ukraine, we all support its well-being and none of the visitors of this page would claim wishing harm to Ukraine and/or its people. So, let's not politicize the project page. --Irpen 23:09, 13 April 2007 (UTC)

How is this template political? It just voices support for the Ukrainian national football team. Besides, it is often argued and debated that football should not be mixed with politics. --Boguslav 00:28, 14 April 2007 (UTC)
Than just make sure userbox is clear that it is about football, not "Ukraine" in general. I would not object against such box of course. --Irpen 00:29, 14 April 2007 (UTC)

That's cool! Thanks a lot! --Irpen 05:52, 1 May 2007 (UTC)

DYK section

What is the point of having the section Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Ukraine#Did you know articles on the project page? We have the window at the portal and the archive too. <aybe I am missing something. My only concern is clarity of what belongs to the portal's and what to the project's scope. --Irpen 23:11, 13 April 2007 (UTC)

It's fine, not duplicating any functions. Articles are listed here, information is listed on the portal. — Alex 09:44, 14 April 2007 (UTC)

I'm going to propose the new article announcement board to be moved over here. Since it's listed under "WikiProjects and collaborations" on the Ukraine portal, all we have to do is change it to link over here. I just don't think it should be a portal subpage, should be a WikiProject subpage instead. — Alex 09:50, 14 April 2007 (UTC)

wikibreak

Due to circumstances in my life, I need to reduce my activity in Misplaced Pages, and will be taking a leave of absence. I wish the Project the best of success while I am away. Chris 22:11, 16 April 2007 (UTC)

Article Section

For the Article section (hyperlinked above), why nor make a separate page for listing them? (Example: Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Ukraine/Articles). The main project page could just have how many of each article there is or something like that. --Boguslav 19:09, 21 April 2007 (UTC)

Usually, on a WikiProject, articles are listed on the main page. — Alex 04:29, 22 April 2007 (UTC)

Infoboxes

How does {{Infobox City Ukraine}} differ from {{Infobox City Ukraine2}}? Can the latter be merged into the former? Andy Mabbett 13:13, 13 June 2007 (UTC)

There is a big difference.. {{Infobox City Ukraine}} incorporates much more information than {{Infobox City Ukraine2}}. City Ukraine2 was the old version, but most articles were changed to the new version some time ago. Actually, I am thinking on changing them all to {{Infobox Settlement}}, which IMO is much better. —dima/talk/ 11:59, 14 June 2007 (UTC)
Thank you for explaining. I would support the latter move, but, in the meantime, can those few articles using #2 be moved to the main UK template, and #2 deleted? Andy Mabbett 13:30, 14 June 2007 (UTC)

Award

Would anyone in this wikiproject be interested in me proposing a barnstar for the project? Chaza93 15:30, 26 July 2007 (UTC)

Proposed WP:Ukraine Award
Reply at my talk page as well please (click the '9' in my name) Chaza93 16:03, 26 July 2007 (UTC)

Yes, I think that would be a great idea.--Riurik 20:50, 26 July 2007 (UTC)
Is anybody against the proposal? Chaza 93 19:36, 6 August 2007 (UTC)

I can't imagine anyone ever opposing the introduction of a new award. But just to remind you guys, there already exists two Ukraine-related wiki-awards. See User_talk:Mzajac/2005#Order_of_Ukraine and User:Riurik/Userpage#Awards for some recipients. But of course, we can use this one as well. --Irpen 20:01, 6 August 2007 (UTC)
