A character/reference from the PS2 game series "Xenosaga".
Born: T.C. 4731
Age: 36 years old
A commander in the Federation Marine Corps, and second in command of the battle cruiser Woglinde.
Andrew Cherenkov was born during the Zohar Incident in T.C. 4731 , as a "Super Soldier". "Super Soldiers" were born to be the ultimate killing machines, and it was their primary instinct to murder. However, after the war ended, there was no more need for them, so they were just let off into society. Cherenkov tried to rebegin his life normally, but he eventually killed someone out of anger and instinct. While on trial, his lawyer ( who happens to be his wife ) defended him, and he was given Level 7 personality reconditioning. Soon after, Cherenkov discovered that his wife had just married him so she could obtain a licence to have a child by cloning herself (it appears that cloning is restricted in this time period, no doubt due to issues of overpopulation and possibly due to the Species Preservation Act), rather than out of actual love. In a fit of anger and desperation, Cherenkov killed her, and obtained harsher personality reconditioning, a Level 8 Procedure.
Cherenkov, for a period, returned to normal. However, as he was walking about one day, he encountered a girl that looked familiar. It was the clone of his wife. As he looked at the girl, she turned to him and uttered one word: "garbage". In a frenzy once more, he wrung her neck. He was given Level 9 Personality Reconditioning - a level way above the usual requirement. But, it still wasn't enough, as he then murdered an entire building of people out of anger. Margulis found out about Cherenkov and took him under his wing in the U-TIC Organization. This gave Cherenkov a sense of being. One of his first missions was to steal KOS-MOS, an android being developed by Vector. Upon arrival, however, KOS-MOS was awakened and murdered nearly all of the people in the room at time, including Shion_Uzuki's then boyfriend Kevin.
Years later, Cherenkov continued working for U-TIC. During an experiment in which he was involved called the Zohar Link Experiment, Cherenkov's home planet, Ariadne, disappeared. The Zohar was then found in space, and taken aboard the Vector experimental ship, the Woglinde. Cherenkov went in along with other U-TIC members undercover to transfer the Zohar to U-TIC. They were unsuccessful, and a group of Gnosis took the Zohar.
By clinging on to the side of Shion Uzuki and Allen_Ridgely's escape pod, he was able to survive the destruction of the Woglinde, and was rescued along with Shion and Allen by the Elsa. However, soon afterwards, he began exhibiting strange bouts of intense pain. Eventually, at the giant Gnosis mothership "Cathedral Ship" Cherenkov suffered the fate of all those almost killed by a Gnosis - he was transformed into one himself. Reluctantly, Shion and the others had to fight and eventually kill him. Shortly before he died, Shion "visited" Cherenkov one final time in his consciousness, a strange beach area - the Beach of Nothingness. Cherenkov said he liked it there, and that Shion would be there soon as well. This is possibly a reference to the fact that Shion was almost turned into a pillar of salt by the Gnosis when she was onboard the Woglinde, and therefore should suffer the same fate as Cherenkov. As of the end of Episode II, however, Shion has not exhibited any signs of the trauma Cherenkov suffered before he met his end.
