Tip of the day...
Upgrade Recent Changes in my preferences
Have you tried the Advanced options in your Recent changes user preferences settings? It requires a modern browser to work and is disabled by default. Unlike the normal "recent changes" page, these options can summarize edits to the same page and let you dynamically expand and collapse the list items. For multiple edits to the same page, it also provides a single "changes" link which will show you a view of the differences (diffs) between these combined edits and the last non-recent revision. After changing the Advanced options, the "Recent changes" list takes effect immediately and can be reversed by unchecking any option. This project is here to build an encyclopedia. Please limit your actions here to things that help that goal. • A Man In Black 21:46, March 1 2007 (UTC) |

The volume of corporate vanity/vandalism which is showing up on Misplaced Pages is overwhelming. |
If we are to remain true to our encyclopedic mission, this kind of nonsense cannot be tolerated. We are losing the battle for encyclopedic content in favor of people intent on hijacking Misplaced Pages for their own memes. This scourge is a serious waste of time and energy. |
I am issuing a call to arms to the community to act in a much more draconian fashion in response to corporate self-editing and vanity page creation. This is simply out of hand, and we need your help. • BradPatrick 09:53, September 29 2006 (UTC) |
Has anyone else noticed how spammers and other conflict of interest editors think the guidelines are for the other guy and what they are doing is "useful" and shouldn't be questioned? And they are completely sincere about that. |
It's entirely plausible that an editor can plow blithely on, unaware of guidelines. Perhaps we need a corollary to Assume good faith called Assume no clue. • JonHarder 03:27, January 19 2007 (UTC) |
We have dialogues here in two languages. Let's for the purposes of discussion call them Wonkish and Arbish. |
In Wonkish, discretion stands for certain vague and disreputable areas of policy where what should happen is not yet properly regulated. |
In Arbish, you have always to look behind applications of policy to see intention and the application to the mission of writing an encyclopedia. |
In other words, discretion in Arbish is read as saying that proactive admins are the main lines of defence of the project. It is much better to have them out there doing their best, taking the mop and bucket away from a few, than to do up the constraints ever tighter to preempt misuse of admin powers. • Charles Matthews 03:23, October 1 2006 (UTC) |

You're a genius?
→ (Note: I keep this old post here as a reminder that I don't seem like a genius. —A.)
I hope this doesn't offend you, but you didn't seem like a genius. And you don't edit anything particularly brilliant, but rather, your edits seem to be just simple fixes here and there. How about completing the table of logic symbols? That's something I actually wrote on the article's talk page that I was going to do, but never did. Or how about "dumbing down," the articles on advanced mathematics and physics, so that, for example, the average reader can understand what the hell this means? At least maybe you can help me correct the article on Classical Liberalism. Robocracy 07:09, 17 November 2006 (UTC) aka HP_Owner in the IRC

Your edit to Template:Unbalanced
→ (In re: edit and fix on {{Unbalanced}} template. —A.)
When you edited Template:Unbalanced, you didn't wrap your tag with <noinclude></noinclude>, which caused it to be displayed on every page that the template was transcluded onto. Please be more careful in the future when editing templates. Andrew Hampe 01:39, 3 August 2007 (UTC)

Hi Athaenara. You are off to such a great start on the article Ernesto de Quesada that it may qualify to appear on Misplaced Pages's Main Page under the Did you know... section. The Main Page gets about 4,000,000 hits per day and appearing on the Main Page may help bring publicity and assistance to the article. However, there is a five day from article creation window for Did you know... nominations. Before five days pass from the date the article was created and if you haven't already done so, please consider nominating the article to appear on the Main Page by posting a nomination at Did you know suggestions. If you do nominate the article for DYK, please cross out the article name on the "Good" articles proposed by bot list. Also, don't forget to keep checking back at Did you know suggestions for comments regarding your nomination. Again, great job on the article. -- JayHenry 05:06, 10 August 2007 (UTC)
On 13 August, 2007, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Ernesto de Quesada, which you created or substantially expanded. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. --DarkFalls 08:10, 13 August 2007 (UTC) |

Jim Bob Duggar infobox
→ (In re: long or short infobox for Jim Bob Duggar. —A.)
I thought that the reason Misplaced Pages has infoboxes is so you can find basic information quickly and easily. I think it goes without saying that information in the info box is also included in the text. Anyway, I don't think it makes it overly long, since the fact that he has so many children is probably the main reason he has an article in the first place. So my point is just that it made it much simpler listing his children. What do you think? ~Phoebus 03:36, 5 August 2007 (UTC)
- I understand your point, but I don't think an infobox which is nearly as long as the article it informs is an asset to the article. — Athaenara ✉ 00:34, 6 August 2007 (UTC)

I'm new to third opinion. What happened to my request for a third opinion and is it common for the request to be removed so quickly?--scuro 12:12, 13 August 2007 (UTC)
- According to the discussion on Talk:Dextroamphetamine#Third Op, a third opinion had been provided by Danielfolsom. If you want to list your dispute again, please feel free to do so, linking the specific talk page section where the dispute is occurring. — Athaenara ✉ 12:26, 13 August 2007 (UTC)

VA Web Team
→ (In re: Victoria and Albert Museum sections (1) & (2) in COI/N Archive 12. —A.)
Hello
I was wondering if you might have time to comment on the list of article links I’ve been making on my Sandbox page. Also, if you can bear it, my To Do List has been completed now. I'd really welcome all your comments/advice and hope I've gone about this the right way this time. Thanks for your help. VAwebteam 09:46, 18 July 2007 (UTC)
- I didn't look at all of the pairings of articles with V&A content, but those I studied (e.g. Leighton House Museum, Ardabil Carpet, Issey Miyake's "Pleats Please," the History of knitting) seem to me to contribute appropriate content of high quality to the encyclopedia.
- After assessing one instance more closely—the Richard Avedon "Dovima with the Elephants" photograph for the Dovima article—I took the liberty in this edit of placing the V&A citation and adding reference format for the external link which was already there.
- I must compliment you on the work you've been doing! — Athaenara ✉ 14:40, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
- Thank you for all your help and spending your time on this. May I ask for your help again in the future? VAwebteam 16:01, 22 July 2007 (UTC)
- Yes, indeed you may. I've found the eclectic assemblage of topics very absorbing. In almost every instance the pertinent V&A resources better serve as inline references for encyclopedic content than as external links. — Athaenara ✉ 16:16, 22 July 2007 (UTC)

- I wanted to say something about VAwebteam's amazing image for the Ardabil Carpet article, but it really speaks for itself. — Athaenara ✉ 18:05, 16 August 2007 (UTC)
Bot archiving for COIN?
→ See also: User talk:Athaenara/Archive 5#Question about COI/N archiving. —A.
Hi Athaenara! Since you stopped archiving, the COI noticeboard is turning into a slum. It's now up to 280 kb, it has grass growing between the bricks, etc. Would you have any opinion on archiving by bot? I helped the WQA board to switch to that system in July, and of course WP:AN and WP:ANI do it that way. It would mean some issues may not be crisply resolved, and some people would miss that. It would also keep things current, and it's less work. A 12 day timeout might be considered (vs. 1 day for ANI, 2 days for AN). EdJohnston 21:52, 10 August 2007 (UTC)
- O, the irony. You posted here mere hours (21:52 - 17:16 = 4:36) after I removed a discussion of COI/N archiving from this page because it had been inactive for more than a month. I think your idea of bot archiving with two weeks grace is good. — Athaenara ✉ 03:07, 11 August 2007 (UTC)

Dear Athaenara -- I am delayed in returning to work with you on external links to slavery-related articles. Reality, deadlines, that sort of matter. There is, however, not the slightest rush here. Jlockard 01:17, 21 August 2007 (UTC)
