Lakshmi Narayan Mittal (also known as Lakshmi Niwas Mittal) is a billionaire industrialist of Indian origin currently residing in London, England. He is chairman of the Mittal Steel Company NV, which is the world's largest producer of steel. In 2005 Forbes Magazine named him the 3rd richest man in the world . His estimated net worth is $25 billion (March 2005). He was the wealthiest person in Britain according to the Sunday Times Rich List 2005. He holds steel assets in South Africa, Poland, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, the United States and many other countries.
In 2002 he was embroiled in a political scandal dubbed Garbagegate with British Prime Minister, Tony Blair when it was felt that a donation Mittal had made to the Labour party had led to Blair's intervention in a business deal favouring Mittal.
Mittal is the richest non-American in the world and was awarded the European Businessman of the year for 2004. His residence in the London borough of Kensington, bought for 50 million pounds, is the most expensive house ever purchased. He reportedly paid $60 million to host his daughter's wedding celebration in Versailles in 2004.
