With the death of Joachim Friedrich (1602) his territories were divided between his sons. George Rudolf received Liegnitz whilst his elder brother Johann Christian received Brieg. George Rudolf of Liegnitz (Jan 22, 1595 - Jan 14, 1653) was a ruler in Silesia.
He was the second surviving son of Duke Joachim Friedrich of Schlesien-Brieg und Liegnitz (Silesia-Brieg and Liegnitz now Brzeg and Legnica) and his wife Anna Maria, the daughter of Joachim Friedrich, Prince of Anhalt-Zerbst. With the death of Joachim Friedrich (1602) his territories were divided between his sons. George Rudolf received Liegnitz whilst his elder brother Johann Christian received Brieg. He ruled as duke for five decades (1602 - 1653) and died aged fifty-eight.
