Telephony

Fixed telephony

  • Telephones - main lines in use: 177,663 (2005)

Services provided by T-Com Montenegro (Owned by Crnogorski Telekom), which has a monopoly in operating fixed telephone lines.

Mobile telephony

  • Telephones - mobile cellular: 661,659 (March 2007)

Services are provided by two GSM operators, ProMonte (Owned by Telenor) and T-Mobile Montenegro (Owned by Crnogorski Telekom). Both providers have national coverage, and provide advanced services. A third provider, MTEL, under a consortium between Telekom Srbija and Dutch Ogalar, began opeartions on 9 July 2007. Also, 3G telephony began operations in the summer of 2007, with all three operators implementing 3G technology.

Internet

  • Internet users: 50,000 (2004)

Internet services are provided mostly by T-Com Montenegro. In addition to dial-up access, in 2005 it started offering ADSL service.

Broadband access

ADSL became available in Montenegro in 2005. So far, the sole provider of ADSL sevices in Montenegro is Crnogorski Telekom. It is becoming increasingly popular option, for the prices are almost the same as if the dial-up access is used.

Currently, five ADSL options are offered by Crnogorski Telekom:

  • ADSL Student - 512/128 kbit/s, 5 GB per month traffic limit - €20 per month (students only)
  • ADSL Surf - 512/128 kbit/s, 2 GB per month traffic limit - €20 per month
  • ADSL M - 512/128 kbit/s, 10 GB per month traffic limit - €35 per month
  • ADSL L - 1024/256 kbit/s, 20 GB per month traffic limit - €50 per month
  • ADSL XL - 2048/512 kbit/s, 40 GB per month traffic limit - €100 per month

Note: prices for companies that use ADSL are slightly higher

Broadcast

RTCG is the state-owned public broadcaster with nationwide coverage. Other privately owned television broadcast stations mostly cover major cities in Montenegro.
