I am particularly proud of the improvements I've been able to make to otherwise hopeless articles, and rescue them from oblivion. But in a hundred years time, I really do hope someone, even if it's only one person, will read something I've written here and say "I have no idea what Rodhullandemu means, but he knew what he was talking about, and knew how to explain it".

Bye. I'm sorry there are no pictures here so you can get an idea of me, but apparently that's not permitted. You work it out.

Rodhullandemu, at one time, was committed to enriching world knowledge by contributing to Misplaced Pages. However, this principle became stultified and neutralised by unnecessary and unexplained bureaucracy, and personal attacks. Encyclopaedias in the real world are dry, not particularly entertaining and largely static over, say, a development cycle of five or ten years. Misplaced Pages, on the other hand, is organic and has the capacity to react within minutes. That is its magic. It is a great shame that so many potential contributors have been driven away by mindless application of rules which stifle the spread of knowledge. And that is even more sad when those rules are applied for their own sake rather than in a community spirit. I have only a little time left to live but I am glad that I've been able to leave something behind me here, since I have no children to do that for me.

Hi there. RodHullAndEmu is a graduate of Manchester Polytechnic & University of York who is interested in almost everything except sport (apart from underwater tennis) and Big Brother except in its Orwellian sense. I've been editing here since 8th August 2007. Currently unemployed, although I'm open to offers. I most recently worked for Virgin Mobile UK but gave it up as a bad job, quite literally; they are geared to the average rather than the exceptional, despite the guff they tell you. If you've come here from a Usenet newsgroup, you should know that, as nothing there can be relied upon, neither can anything here. There, that's the Trade Descriptions Act 1968 satisfied!

Why "RodHullAndEmu"?

I wanted to edit as Firethorn or its Latin name Pyracantha but they were taken. So remembering Lee & Herring's "Fist of Fun" and that Rod Hull himself is conveniently, if unfortunately dead, resolved to assume the identity on the basis that anybody these days is entitled to state "I'm the REAL Rod Hull". This may change. I would like to be Leeloominaï Lekatariba Lamina Tchaï Ekbat De Sebat, but then, who wouldn't?

What else?

  • In my youth I won some prizes for songwriting and performing
  • I practised law in Liverpool from 1974 to 1982 and qualified in 1978
  • I've appeared on University Challenge (1984)
  • I researched, wrote & published The York Quiz Book (1988)
  • I was a District Councillor between 1988 and 1990, serving on Planning & Environmental Health Committees. I gained a reputation for cutting the crap & getting things done. I won my election with 64% of the vote on the highest turnout in my Ward in living memory, so I must have got something right.
  • I sometimes write software that does things that need doing. I do Visual Basic & Visual C++
  • I have also worked on real-time safety-critical systems for the rail industry
  • I have a keen sense of the ridiculous, pricking pomposity whenever I can - and there are a lot of pompous pricks out there
