JarlaxleArtemis again…sigh

Hope you don't mind, but you are apparently the appropriate person to inform that JarlaxleArtemis is being a pest again in various quarters. I noticed him on WP:ANI making a snarky comment and followed up, since the name rang a vague bell. His talk page and recent contributions show evidence of continuing twittery, and when I mentioned it in passing on IRC I was recommended to ensure that you were aware of the situation. Cessna 414

Hi, Linuxbeak. Nice nick. I'm a new newbie. I was referred to you by Sarah E. (I forget her last name). I wonder if you have photos or illustrations of a Cessna 414 that could be used in the Keith Green and Cessna 414 articles. Sarah said you might be able to point me somewhere. I'm also looking to expand the Cessna 414 article with documented specs and other stuff. I'm almost finished with Keith Green's. --Mdoc7 15:58, 2 September 2006 (UTC)

Not to be too rude but you could maybe finish answering the above questions about your election or state which ones you do not intend to answer? It would be very helpful. Thanks. JoshuaZ 20:29, 4 September 2006 (UTC)

That would violate WP:AUTO, actually, Wiki Fan. Correct me if I'm wrong, Linuxbeak, but I don't think you want an article about yourself (apart from the fact it'll likely be speedily deleted soon on CSD A7 grounds) Picaroon9288talk 16:18, 6 September 2006 (UTC)

Hi, Alex. In light of the four discussions listed below, what course of action would you take with regard to the 9/11 Misplaced Pages if you were elected to the board?

Looking forward to your response. Thanks. Andreyi 17:37, 13 September 2006 (UTC)

Misplaced Pages Weekly Episode 3

Hi, and thanks for offering to help with the Misplaced Pages Weekly podcast. Episode 2 will soon be recorded and release, and so we've started planning for Episode 3, to be recorded next Friday. If you'd like to be on the panel, or suggest any content for the show, feel free to edit that page with the details. Don't feel limited to the five places on the panel, either - there are two extra places available for alternate hosts, who would fill in if the others are unable to speak.

Thanks again for the offer of support, and see you soon. :) Daveydweeb (/patch) 11:33, 19 October 2006 (UTC)

Hi Linuxbeak. I am going to proceed to show you my cool new, unofficial messagebox to which I achieved the wiki markup from by substing another template.

Half-Life WikiProject?

Hi there, I saw your name on HL's talk page, and I wanted to ask you if you're interested in creating a WikiProject on Half-Life. I've haven't had anyone interested sign up on the projects proposed page. -- Selmo 01:57, 29 October 2006 (UTC)

User:Linuxbeak/Admin stuff/JarlaxleArtemis

Hi.

I belive this should be deleted permanently as found it unintentionally in Google and it is against the privacy policy.

Best regards, Nux (talk) 12:36, 7 November 2006 (UTC).

How is the information on that page any more of a privacy violation than the information contained in Misplaced Pages:Long term abuse and its various subpages? Both sites contain similar information (i.e., user accounts cross-referenced with IP addresses). —Psychonaut 18:41, 7 November 2006 (UTC)
I might have missunderstood something - I've thought that some of the IPs were not the ones of Jarlaxle. And if Tim don't want to delete it then I guess it's OK. So sorry for that. --Nux (talk) 21:12, 7 November 2006 (UTC)

Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving to you and your love ones. This year I have the whole family over (last year my daughter, son-in law and little Nina spent it in Iowa). We'll put up the Christmas decos after dinner.

I'm going to work on some of the MoH's soon. I created a Category: Recipients of the Silver Star medal and added some names. Maybe you know of some people who were awarded the Silver Star medal and who do not have that cat. on their pages. You can help me out by adding the cat.

Take care my brother.

Bot Help ?

Hey there Linuxbeak, I dunno if you can help out on this, but I knwo that you can point me in the right direction. I would like to add templates to ar wiki of all the verses of the New Testament and Old Testament, in such a way that: {{BibleNT|Matthew|24|24}}

would give you Matthew 24:24 or something like that, i am sure there's a similar thing in en wiki, but i dont know it.

I want to run this as an automated process, I have my own bot at ar wiki (LordAnubisBOT) and it uses the pywikipedia python framework.

Do you know which particular .py bot i can use to perform this task ? do you know anyone who's done something like that recently ? cheers. --Lord Anubis 08:32, 20 December 2006 (UTC)

Dear People at Misplaced Pages,

As you are aware, I registered (or joined) Misplaced Pages this evening. My IP is NOT 24.66.94.140, and I was getting messages that my IP was being blocked because of abuse to the system. My IP is nothing close to 24.66.94.140, which Misplaced Pages told me that that was my IP. I take it that IP 24.66.94.140 is on a black list of some sort, but can't you tell on your system what my actual IP is? Or, was I being blocked because I have been using Misplaced Pages for some time now, without having registered. But even if that is the case, why would your server tell me that I had abused the system? I'm really curious about this, so please send me a message explaining what the mess up was all about. Just in case you want to know, my IP is 70.64.11.80. As far as the name 'Kalhun' goes, I don't think anyone goes by that name because it's a name my parents made up since they escaped from the Soviet Union and didn't want to jeopordize our remaining relatives in theee former Soviet Union durin g the Stalin Era, so when we would write letters to my uncles and aunt, we would use the name 'Kalhun' as our name on the return address. Well, drop me a line about what the mix up was all about. As for Misplaced Pages, I just think it's the best thing on the net since sliced bread. Do you know if there are any job openings at the company, as I have recently relocated (but am willing...and wanting to relocate from Saskatchewan, Canada. Ideally, I would love a good position in Toronto or Montreal, or overseas, as I can spend hours and hours at your website. Please advise, and thank you for rectifying the mix up so quickly. If you do not handle this type of stuff, please pass it on to someone who does. I'm very new to this and have left messages with a few administrators. (For me it's not really clear as to who to contact....hope you can help me out).

Best regards, Lawrence A Tkalych USER ID: 3076835

List of dictators

I'm really annoyed.

After I and you and many others worked hard to make this article truly excellent and indeed an exemplar list on wikipedia, the same people that tried to get the previous list deleted come along a pull a scam like this.

I don't know if the deletion was marked at the top of the page, but I check the article from time to time and didn't notice it. They picket the holiday season when no one was looking, lost the vote, deleted anyhow using the same argument that was explicitly rejected by the community now and before. They gave no notice to the people who were watching the article. Doc Glasgow had previously been involved in the article and should have recused himself anyway. Hundreds of hours of people's time have been deleted on the whim of a admin with in axe to grind.

Carefully worked out criteria, methods of discussion, 120 references, dozens of articles linking in, a fantastic resource.

Again to refute the silly argument made by some that dictator is an "inherently POV" descriptor, simply search wikipedia for the word dictator and notice how many people are described that way. Britannica, Encarta etc all do so, as do all news outlets.

What can we do?

Thank You All

As you all know, some hacker cracked my password and I have been stripped of my admin powers. I can understand an admin. being blocked, but stripped of his powers without a fair hearing or consensus, I can't. I have stated that I changed my password and would like my powers back, however the chastizing going on in ] has sadden me. It doesn't matter how many articles you have written, contributions you have made or how many years you have dedicated to making this project a credible one. A hacker, it seems has the power of making people consider you an untrustful person and turning some people in the community against you.

I have never abused of my powers and I have used Misplaced Pages as a medium to educate others. Yes, I have no regrets about having made so many contributions to the Pedia. I exhort all of my friends here to make sure that their passwords are strong ones so that you will not have to go through what I am going through.

I did promise some of my friends a couple of articles and as a good Marine I will keep my promise. To my friends here, Thank you for your friendship. Tony the Marine 00:07, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image (Image:800px-Metrocop GScott.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:800px-Metrocop GScott.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Misplaced Pages under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Misplaced Pages. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Misplaced Pages (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Misplaced Pages page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 15:05, 28 May 2007 (UTC)

Welcome back

Hi Linuxbeak, welcome back. I don't think we interacted before you left, so I guess its "Hello" as well. I saw your message at WP:AN. Not much has manged in terms of crat work while you've been gone, though there is a new page Misplaced Pages:Changing username/Usurpations, where users can request to be renamed to an existing username. To qualify the requested username must have no edits, (or sometimes no GFDL signficant edits, e.g. reverted vandalism, adding "Hi, I'm Fred" to their userpage" - that sort of thing) and have existed for at least 6 months. The target account is emailed if possible and has a week to object. After a lot of requests when it was set up its pretty quiet now. Various people worked out some guidelines to present username change practice - they're at WP:CHUG if you want to read up on that. RfA still works (or doesn't, depending on one's perspective) in pretty much the same way. Hope this info is useful. WjBscribe 02:00, 3 November 2007 (UTC)

  • I'd say the most significant policy change in recent times has been that Misplaced Pages:Biographies of living persons has become truly accepted as policy after some contentious battles. There are still disagreements over how it applies to particular cases, but that sort of issue you should be familiar with from plenty of other policies. RfA is still broken yet limping along - or not - depending upon your perspective. Misplaced Pages still is/is not run by a cabal, etc... The inclusionist/exclusionist debate continues unending. What has really changed is that citing sources has become more important, but this has been a gradual enough shift that it probably began before your departure. WP:CSD is probably worth reviewing before you begin acting in that area, the changes are generally minor but worth noting. GRBerry 02:34, 3 November 2007 (UTC)

Rename archiving

Hi, just a note to say that the Bot that achives the rename requests looks for the templates {{done}} or {{not done}} to determine which archive to put the requests in. It was felt the words themselves can come up too easily in discussion ie. "when this is done", "if this is not done..." etc. WjBscribe 18:59, 3 November 2007 (UTC)
