Salonina Matidia was the daughter of Ulpia Marciana and beloved niece of the Emperor Trajan. Trajan had no children and treated her like his daughter. In 112, she received the title of Augusta.
In 119, Matidia died, the Emperor Hadrian delivered her funeral oration. Matidia was very fond of her second cousin and allowed him to marry his daughter Vibia Sabina.
Matidia first married Lucius Vibius Sabinus, a man of consular rank. He died in 97. Their daughters were
