Şahin Giray is Last Crimean Khan. He was born in 1745 in Edirne. He studied in Greece and Venice. He spoke Tatar Language -main language-, Ottoman Turkish, Italian and Greek. When he was 20, his uncle Crimean Khan Kırım Giray called him to Crimea. Then, He became Commander of Nogai Horde. In 1770 Russia won a great battle against the Ottoman Empire. Russia wanted alliance with Crimean Khanate. But, Crimean Khan of this time , Selim Giray was angry with it. Suddenly, Russia attacked Crimea. Tatars didn't have any solution. Şahin Giray sent to St. Petersburg for peace. Catherine II wrote about him: " Crimean Prince is most gentle Tatar, I saw. He's very talented, good-looking and writing poetries. He wants to see and learn everything. " In 1776, Şahin Giray became Khan of Crimea.
