Welcome to Misplaced Pages. We invite everyone to contribute constructively to our encyclopedia. One or more of your recent edits, such as the one you made to Veganism, have been considered unhelpful or unconstructive and have been reverted or removed. Please use the sandbox for any test edits you would like to make, and take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you.--Michig 07:51, 18 April 2007 (UTC)

Hi, your Image:Casablanca Delta ceiling fan.JPG on Commons is missing licensing information. Can you please add it, otherwise the picture might be deleted. 193.95.170.99 13:47, 30 May 2007 (UTC)

  • I added it today. It already said it was a self-made photo, and I had already released it under GDFL. I've edited the photo's description to say that it's completely released for free use for any purpose. Thanks. Piercetheorganist 22:25, 30 May 2007 (UTC)

Hey dude

Well met to you too. I don't give a shit which style of English is used in the Pluto article. But Misplaced Pages style convention demands that an article's spelling be entirely consistent. To pass its FA nomination, I had to go through and regularise the spellings. Since most of the edits were done by me, that meant that I regularised it to British English. If you want to regulrise it to American English, that's fine and dandy- but you'll have to go through the whole thing and manually change every different word. One ain't enough, buddy. Serendipodous 14:15, 5 June 2007 (UTC)

The article is standardised to English, Pierce, you'll need to garner consensus to convert it to American, which isn't really English. Matthew 14:57, 5 June 2007 (UTC)
(edit conflict) No, once a spelling is chosen and standardized (as you have done for Pluto, Serendipodous), unless there is a compelling reason to change it, it should not be changed to another variety of English, even if it's done consistently. Tell the American to suck it up and live with a couple esses and yous. Lexicon (talk) 15:00, 5 June 2007 (UTC)

Actually, Piercetheorganist, you have been blocked for 24 hours for this edit. Please read WP:CIVIL and WP:NPA during your break. That comment was so far beyond what is acceptable here that I am tempted to block you for a month because you've obviously shown that you possess an attitude which is completely unwelcome here on Misplaced Pages. I have kept it at 24 hours since it is your first offence (ignoring your several "asshat" comments in edit summaries), but if I see anything even remotely like a personal attack again, you will be blocked for an extensive period of time. You might want to learn these couple things in your day off:

  1. While founded and run by an American not-for-profit organization with servers in the United States, Misplaced Pages is a worldwide encyclopedia, and all varieties of English are welcome here. Please see WP:ENGVAR and WP:SPELLING for more information.
  2. Personal attacks will absolutely not be tolerated here. Differences are to be embraced, not made fun of, and you would do well to learn this very quickly.
  3. Civility is of the utmost importance when communicating with other editors on the encyclopedia. If you are civil to them, they will likely be civil in return to you.

Lexicon (talk) 15:34, 5 June 2007 (UTC)

I wonder what would happen if I told this guy I was born in New York City... Serendipodous 21:16, 5 June 2007 (UTC)

FG Songs

What did you do to my beloved page?! I made it to be a lyrics page, and everythings gone! I love the songs and wanted to make a page where I can get on quickly, click on the song, and get the lyrics. That's why I put it on Wikiquote, because I think it qualifys as a quote page. I think your idea is good, but I just wanted the lyrics. Can we please work something out. It took a lot of work just to get those 5-10 songs on my original page. Please work with me, Piercetheorganist, I want to be involed in everything with this page! --BrianGriffin-FG 19:01, 15 June 2007 (UTC)

Ok, now I'm in the pissed-off phase. I have given two weeks too respond. You might be busy, I understand that, so I'm not going to make a big deal about it, but I'm going to put the page back up again, from scratch, on Wikiquote, and if you have a big deal with it, say so on my talk page OR on the artical's talk. That's all I have to say.--BG-FG out 18:22, 29 June 2007 (UTC)
PS-Your artical is full of mistakes. Just sayin'.

1)I'm really sorry that I didn't see your 1st responce, I don't really check user page for mesages, sorry. 2)The crying effects was put in there for humor, sorry if you thought it was creepy. 3)Thank you for telling me that the page cant exist. I would never have known that. I still want to help you though!--BrianGriffin-FG 22:41, 3 July 2007 (UTC)

I found the perfect site. The Family Guy Wiki of cource. I went there to recreate my page, and I clicked on this link that said "Musical Numbers" and I got to a catagores page with a list of song titles and I clicked on "The Freakin' FCC" and it gave me the lyrics. They even have the little songs no one cares about. Just thought I'd let you know. Family Guy Wika--BrianGriffin-FG 19:19, 5 July 2007 (UTC)

Hi, you redirected Glow plug to Glowplug, which was in fact redirected to Glow plug, so I reverted you. Kthx. :) — Nearly Headless Nick 10:33, 29 June 2007 (UTC)

Inflammatory language vs euphemism

"Panties in a wad" is not a euphemism for "worked up". Euphemism is the expression of an unpleasant or embarrassing notion by a more inoffensive substitute. "Panties in a wad" cannot be considered less unpleasant, embarrassing offensive than "worked up". In light of this "panties in a wad" is quite the opposite of a euphemism. It is inflammatory language. I have a hard time believing that you don't realize you are being rude, not just in this case, but in much of your correspondence with others. Idioma 08:05, 1 July 2007 (UTC)

Ceiling fan

Why are you reverting my edits on Ceiling fan? --SB 01:07, 2 July 2007 (UTC)

  • #2 in your explanation makes sense, I was not aware of this side effect for the explain template and will consider not using it further in my work. Good point.
  • I disagree with you on your reason #1. I will site my reasoning on the talk page and reinstate my edit. I was in the process of citing the edit, and will do so as well.
  • It is not policy or convention to discuss every change on the talk page and receive community consensus prior to editing the article
  • Feel free to copy-edit if my grammar was faulty, or reword if my phraseology is unclear, but it is convention to discuss with the editor prior to reverting their work. Except with vandalism of course.
  • The Height of the fan relative to the observer section does not cover the information I added. I think you've missed the point. I will again, clarify in the talk page edit.
  • I've noticed that you've put a lot of work into this article but you need to watch your tone. You do not own the article. Misplaced Pages is a community based effort. I suspect your response was reactive, please take your time and think your actions through when interacting with others in this community.
  • It is convention when posting to a users talk page to use the + at the top of the page, which adds a header. It is also convention to sign your posts. I see as I am about to submit this that you have update my talk page with both of these. Thank you.
--SB 01:35, 2 July 2007 (UTC)
Pierce your reverts to to Ceiling fan over the last 24 hours have violated WP:3RR. You are in danger of a 24 hour block, please read policy to educate yourself on what you can do. Idioma 03:26, 3 July 2007 (UTC)
Thanks Idioma!
Pierce, I'm taking a break from the ceiling fan article. In the mean time I suggest you review the article Idioma suggested as well as WP:NPA, Misplaced Pages:Wikiquette, Misplaced Pages:Resolving_disputes. Furthermore, you may want to take a step back and look at the feedback that you've received on your talk page and do some self-analysis of the way you interact with this community. You are clearly someone who has a lot of knowledge about fans and cares about them deeply, which I can respect. Have a good 4th.--SB 22:11, 3 July 2007 (UTC)

Pierce, it's JW. Any particular reason you reverted my "two to six blades" back to "one to six blades"? I put in my edit summary that the only one-bladed fan out of thousands of different models is the Enigma. With that thinking, let's just go ahead and make it eight like that Monte Carlo morphing chandelier thing - or better yet 30+ (or "one rotating disc") like the Guth-Fans. --Goldrushcavi 22:41, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

Repost of List of songs in Family Guy

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on List of songs in Family Guy, by 69.208.75.104 (talk · contribs), another Misplaced Pages user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Misplaced Pages. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because List of songs in Family Guy was previously deleted as a result of an articles for deletion (or another XfD)

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting List of songs in Family Guy, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. --Android Mouse Bot 2 19:42, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

Its Monkey D. Luffy. What you've got up there is just how the Japanese pronounce it, its not actually Luffy's name. I see now what your at, but Rufi should not be redirecting to Monkey D. Luffy anyway so you can freely change that. Angel Emfrbl 21:09, 2 September 2007 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Fontifier Logo.gif)

Thanks for uploading Image:Fontifier Logo.gif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Misplaced Pages under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Misplaced Pages. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Misplaced Pages (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Misplaced Pages page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 23:20, 11 October 2007 (UTC)

The proper way to move articles (NOT copy-and-paste)

Look: If you want to change the title of an article, you're supposed to use the "move" button. DO NOT simple copy and paste onto a new article. When you press the "move" button, the article's edit history and the talk page and the talk page's edit history get moved along with it. That doesn't happen when you use cut-and-paste.

I've changed cycles per second back to a redirect to cycle per second, because Misplaced Pages's style manual calls for singular titles unless there is a special reason to use plurals. I don't see any such reason in the present case. the singular of this noun phrase does get used appropriately in suitable contexts. Michael Hardy 18:56, 26 October 2007 (UTC)

Why have you never addressed my point at talk:cycle per second? You keep tacitly suggesting I'm wrong in your edits to the article while ignoring the discussion on the talk page. Michael Hardy 20:55, 27 October 2007 (UTC)

Last chance

I have reverted you here. Since you have been a contributor to this article, you obviously have a conflict of interest with it, so do not remove tags which you personally disagree with, the tag was placed correctly, so it is not your decision to remove it. Also, your edit summary — please refrain from calling people "morons" anymore, doing so is unnecessarily a personal attack, and could warrant a block. Consider this a final chance to improve your behaviour. Qst (talk) 00:03, 11 November 2007 (UTC)

I do not appreciate being called toots, by the way. You are seriously in violation of Misplaced Pages:No personal attacks, Please stop insulting me and other editors, or you may endup being blocked. Qst (talk) 17:49, 11 November 2007 (UTC)

Your dispute with Qst

It has come to my attention that you are currently involved in a dispute with Qst (talk · contribs). During that time, you have made several insulting comments, all of which could be interpreted as a personal attack. You must refrain from doing this - comment on the content of edits, not on the contributors.

I refer to your edits, here, here and here. The next time you make a personal attack or disrupt Misplaced Pages with your edits in this manner, you will be blocked from editing. Anthøny 19:18, 11 November 2007 (UTC)

Rorschach inkblot test

Psychologists do not pronounce the test "ROR-shack". I have talked about the Rorschach to hundreds of psychologists from all over the world. Not once have I heard it pronounced that way. I'm always amazed when people make edits with little or no information to back them up. Ward3001 23:54, 12 November 2007 (UTC)

Actually, asshole, I do have info to back me up -- it was just on TV. If nothing else, that shows "ROR-shack" to be an accepted colloquial pronunciation. Maybe you should go see some of those hundreds of shrinks again? Piercetheorganist 00:06, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
Hearing it on TV doesn't make it right. I've heard lots of wrong info on TV. Newscasts do it all the time. Ward3001 00:27, 13 November 2007 (UTC)

listcruft

I feel very strongly that List of Hook organs would go a lot better on one of your own websites than here. -- RHaworth (Talk | contribs) 02:46, 26 December 2007 (UTC)

Actually, I completely second the motion that it's listcruft. I didn't want it in the E. and G.G. Hook & Hastings article whatsoever, since the list is so long and irrelevant and elsewhere-accessible, but I figured someone would probably freak out if I deleted it from the face of Wiki altogether. So feel free to AfD it, with my blessing. Pierce Phillips (talk) 12:50, 26 December 2007 (UTC)

Your userpage

Hello Piercetheorganist. I believe the recent changes you have made to your userpage cross the line as to what is permitted in userspace. While more latitude is generally permitted in userspace, the policy of WP:SOAP still applies. I am contacting you to see if you will voluntarily tone down the rhetoric - particularly the parts about advocating death for those who disagree with your politics.--Kubigula (talk) 16:10, 30 December 2007 (UTC)

I've reverted your reinstatement of this material: please understand that it's one thing to provide some information about yourself, but openly hostile rhetoric that does not contribute to the creation of an encyclopedia is inappropriate per WP:USERPAGE and WP:SOAP. Report of uncivil edit summary

Just wanted to let you know that I've made a report of your uncivil edit summary () to the Soloflex article at the Misplaced Pages:Administrators'_noticeboard/Incidents. Also, I noticed your request on your userpage that people not call you by your first name, and thought I should mention that it's likely not out of disrespect but because your username contains your first name. MrVibrating (talk) 14:28, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

  • Even as a confirmed hater of incorrect grammar (I personally had my financial adviser replaced after he wrote "I would of suggested....") this edit summary is not acceptable at any time. Please don't repeat it, or you are in danger of being blocked. Thanks, BLACKKITE 14:34, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

Edit summaries like that are simply not acceptable. Looking through your edit history, I'm troubled by a number of issues going back quite a long time. For example your general conduct at Browline glasses, using twinkle to revert non-vandalism and other uncivil edit summaries (, ). Misplaced Pages editors are expected to always remain civil and work towards collegial harmony, and editing like that is not conducive to the respectful environment we want here.

You should already know all this, given that you've been told this before, and blocked twice. To prevent further disruption, you have been blocked for a week. However, if you make a commitment to improve your civility I'd be happy for you to be unblocked you directly. To request this, place {{unblock|reason}} below this comment. henriktalk 22:34, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

No thank you. No way in hell I'm giving you that power-trip. :-) Mr. P. S. Phillips (talk) 11:29, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

A userbox to which some may take offense

This user is a proud gun-toting Republican and Southerner

Hello,

I'm aware that the confederate flag may be meaningful to you for reasons other than its historical association with racism, but together with the text of this userbox, I think you need to reconsider whether this is altogether appropriate for Misplaced Pages. This userbox as it is worded and presented can easily be (mis)interpreted. Here is a suggestion for rewording:

"This user is a Southerner who knows that the confederate flag stands for liberty and not racism."

However, it may simply be appropriate to remove the userbox in its entirety or at least disassociate the message with the image.

ScienceApologist (talk) 08:48, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

Unfortuently you don't have freedom of speech on Misplaced Pages as it is an aristocracy of administrators who decide what and what is not 'appropriate'. I would recommend taking it down because they will just harras you more and more.--58.111.143.164 (talk) 11:23, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

I absolutely will not remove that userbox. As with all other things, people make a choice about how they wish to view the Confederate flag. I am not responsible for anyone's choice in this -- see it as pride, see it as heritage, see it as racism, whatever you want; it's your decision, not mine; therefore, I'm not responsible for it. Secondly, even if you do choose to view it as a negative thing, you have the further choice about whether to become offended by it. I am, therefore, also not responsible for that. I cannot enter into someone's skull and press some sort of button which causes them to become discontent. People have options -- how they see things, how they feel about things, and how they react to those thoughts and feelings, are all squarely in their control. It would be rather arrogant of me to act as though I have power over others' minds. I am, of course, not responsible for things outside of my control. Also, I'm not into this censorship/fascism crap. The idea that a given symbol cannot be publicly displayed because not everyone likes it, is comparable to book-burning and a whole host of other things. They'll be ice-skating in hell the day I censor things to appease people who seek to strip away all things they find "distasteful". Grow up and deal with it. I'm not going to word things in a certain way (i.e. "This user is a Southerner who knows that the confederate flag stands for liberty and not racism.") in order to appease people. People can read what I've written ("This user is a proud gun-toting Republican and Southerner") and choose to infer whatever they wish. I have no duty whatsoever to walk on eggshells and work to word things in ways which will offend the smallest amount of people. The fact I'm white doesn't mean I owe special treatment to blacks; the fact I'm an atheist doesn't mean I owe special treatment to Christians; the fact I'm gay doesn't mean I owe special treatment to folks who are straight; the fact I'm a conservative doesn't mean I owe special treatment to liberals (even though Misplaced Pages is populated almost entirely by them); the fact I'm an American doesn't mean I owe special treatment to people born in poverty-stricken nations. So everyone who seeks to put a "pleasing" filter over what I wish to express can take their fascist ass, plop it down on their thumb, and rotate. Thank you. Mr. P. S. Phillips (talk) 11:46, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
I don't think you really addressed my concern. Display the confederate flag all you want. Declare yourself to be a gun-toting Republican and Southerner. But juxtaposing these two items together is offensive to a broad swath of the Misplaced Pages community and like it or not you are bound to the rules, policies, and practices of this community. For example, people can easily interpret this as opposed to your particular advocacy in this userbox. You are free to go elsewhere if you feel this strongly about your need to display this userbox in this way. ScienceApologist (talk) 16:21, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
This would most certainly appear to be a first-world problem :-). You choose what you're offended by; you can choose to simply ignore this userbox entirely. I guarantee that my userpage not being exactly as you want it will not prevent you from viewing, editing, and contributing to Misplaced Pages. I will not allow you to censor my userpage to conform to your fascist agenda. If you don't like it, ignore it -- you come to it, it doesn't come to you. Enjoy editing Misplaced Pages. Mr. P. S. Hi, P.S. Phillips. While I understand that you wish to express yourself, Misplaced Pages is not a soapbox, nor is it your personal webhost. You do not own your userpage, and its content has to conform to our policies. This particular userbox does not conform to our policies - it is divisive and potentially offensive. So it needs to be removed, and if you don't remove I will do it for you. I'm afraid this is not a negotiable aspect of our community. Natalie (talk) 16:39, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
I hereby request that you delete my entire account -- userpage and all -- immediately. I'm going to move to a different project. Thank you. Mr. P. S. Phillips (talk) 16:58, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
