Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.
    Shortcuts

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

    George W. Bush (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Full-protection Even though it is semi-protected, it is still vandalized. I am getting sick of this much vandalism. Look at how much vandalism there has been in the past 4 days. a lot. Why can't this be protected, it takes a lot less vandalism to semi-protect another page than to fully protect this one. Seriously, I think that that is stupid. If this page remains only semi-protected, then it will still get vandalized a lot. Footballfan190 (talk) 01:21, 10 January 2008 (UTC)

Full- Protect This page has continuously being vandalized by vandals of another website. Its very difficult to keep on editing the page.

    Current requests for unprotection

    Shortcuts

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin on their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page, click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page," which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page, please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected, please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

    Thomas Hobbes (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Protected for several months for vandalisms. 68.39.174.238 (talk) 10:47, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

    Unprotected. Anthøny 21:34, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

    Bates method (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

The month-long semi-protection of the Bates method entry was in response to a single edit, to which no specific objections were raised other than that it was determined to have been done through an open proxy server. In fact, the admin who imposed the ban nonetheless agreed (by his own revert) that the introduction should not contain material which said edit removed. It is true that the article had previously been protected for a shorter period of time, because of apparent open proxy edits. The complaint there was that these proxies were being used to edit war. However, an examination of the editing history and the discussion page will reveal that this "edit war" was against a user who frequently draws complaints from other registered users. But regardless of what previously transpired, one essentially constructive edit done through a proxy server does not warrant a month's ban on unregistered or newly registered users from editing. At minimum, the length should be reduced. From Misplaced Pages:Open_proxies: "Open or anonymising proxies may be blocked from editing for any period at any time to deal with editing abuse. While this may affect legitimate users, they are not the intended targets and may freely use proxies until those are blocked."

Current requests for significant edits to a protected page

    Shortcut

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Misplaced Pages:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Misplaced Pages:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

    Fulfilled/denied requests

David Howe (claimant to King of Mann) (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

semi-protect This is a biography about me and editors, Hearldic and Newguy34, are disregarding my privacy concerns WP:Blp#Presumption_in_favor_of_privacy by continuing to insert information about a business I own but is not what I am notable for. The business has been receiving harassing phone calls since the inclusion of this information with various callers asking my employees where they will be working when I am "deported for violating my American citizenship asserting my rights as the King of the Isle of Man", coupled with a slew of vulgarities. One caller told an employee he found my business through my Misplaced Pages page. I've asked these editors to respect my privacy and to stick to why I am notable but looking over their various edit histories and disputes with other editors it is apparent that they are not editing in Misplaced Pages's best interests and are attempting to edit to their points of view. Regards, David--Kingofmann (talk) 22:03, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

Fully protected Semi protection would not do anything in this case, as it is an issue between registered users. I would suggest using the talk page of the article, or conducting a conversation with the user(s) on personal talk pages. Jmlk17 22:09, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

Republic of China (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

semi-protect. Dispute, bordering on full-blown edit war. Controversy surrounds references to the language, government, and political status of the Republic of China, and how/whether to refer to the state as a province of China or as an independent nation of Taiwan. The more pro-taiwan version is being continuously reverted to by an IP editor (or series of related IPs), while multiple users have attempted to show consensus to retain a version that appears to be more NPOV. A diff showing the most recent reversion is here. Would seek protection to permit some meaningful discussion on the matter. UltraExactZZ ~ Evidence 21:50, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

FIFA World Player of the Year (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

semi-protect This page has been freqeuntly vandalised for a long period of time. Someone on the talk page asked some months ago for someone to protect it. Even when I tried to revert it to a version that I thought was correct, there was vandalism. It's an easy target for stealth vandalism as well, unless a user is familiar for all the top three players for every year. Majority of vandals are IP adresses so semi-protection would be sufficient.
