White-eyed River Martins

Your welcome for the info. I got the yearbook for Christmas and it covers every species currently listed as CR by BirdLife, so give me a holler if you want to start on another (though I think most are on my watchlist; I'm pondering whether to start a Critical Endangerement WikiProject (though I need a better name than that)). Good job with the article and congrats on getting it GAed in probably record time.

I saw your note on WP:Bird about possibly bringing it up to a FAC. Personally, I'd advise you to wait for a while. I think it needs some pictures of the bird (not sure if you've asked Shyamal to do a drawing if the others are copyrighted) and a picture of the bird's habitat before going for FA. Also, since you currently have 2 articles at FAC (which I'll review tomorrow, I promise:)), I would wait for at least one, probably both to be promoted or archived before nominating a third. From what I have seen, typically the FACers frown upon more than one nomination at a time. Make sure you also read up on some of the debates with shorter FAs (Hurricane Irene (2005)'s FAC I think had it) because some will oppose solely on the shortness of the article.

Anyways, congrats on passing it and I'll review Blackbird and Chiffchaff tommorrow. Rufous-crowned Sparrow (talk) 21:15, 4 January 2008 (UTC)

Oh, and I also might consider expanding the range map to include the areas mentioned as possible places for the river martins. Obviously keep the green from where they are confirmed, but put question marks over speculative conjectures and unconfirmed sightings. Rufous-crowned Sparrow (talk) 22:22, 4 January 2008 (UTC)

Birds of prey

You are interested in birds of prey, right? -Tobi4242 (talk) 21:16, 6 January 2008 (UTC)

I have been thinking about starting a Birds of prey wikiproject, and i want to find people to be in the list of people who want to be in it. would you be interested? -Tobi4242 (talk) 18:35, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

Mute Swan 1585 Roanoke,Virginia

Hi, Jim, I'm still at it. Discovering more and more good material showing nativity here. I have tried to place the photo of the John White drawing, but I must be doing something wrong.I'll keep trying, I just wanted to touch base with you. Chiffchaff

Thanks for the update. Take as much time as you need with my comments and tell me if something doesn't make sense. Glad to hear that you had a good trip (though I must say, I have White-crowned Sparrows in my backyard :))Rufous-crowned Sparrow (talk) 21:06, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

Or you already have (just looked at my watchlist). I'll check over your changes now. Thanks. Rufous-crowned Sparrow (talk) 21:10, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

Striped Kingfisher

Hi, Jim. I was glad to see your improvements to Striped Kingfisher from Fry and Fry. The male feeding the female is especially cute! There are a some places where the article could still be improved, maybe from that book. One is that the current source for the range of H. c. eremogiton (sp?) is not very reliable. The other is that according to a commercial guide site I found, the Striped K.'s hunting method is to swoop onto its prey from a low perch and return to the perch to kill and eat the prey. It would be good to have something like that from a reliable source. (Or maybe it's true of all of Halcyon or Halcyonidae?)

Finally, with just Kenyan and South African sources, I don't feel like I gave a good description of plumage variation or of differences between the subspecies—but those are bigger topics. —JerryFriedman (Talk) 17:07, 10 January 2008 (UTC)

Thanks, that's just the kind of thing I was hoping for. —JerryFriedman (Talk) 05:14, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

Jason Page

Hello, I was wondering why you decided the page about Jason was not significant? Jasonfan1 (talk) 06:46, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

OK, I understand why it was removed. Are local newspapers and school newspapers considered reliable secondary sources? Thanks! Jasonfan1 (talk) 06:54, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
Thank you! I will look into finding proper references. I thought any old chump off the street could have an article written about them here... I guess not!!! Jasonfan1 (talk) 07:04, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

Creo Mundi submission

This is not intended to be blatant advertising. Creo Mundi is a new company that is taking a fresh new approach to the metaphysical to bring it into the “real” world. Intentional clothing is a concept that Creo Mundi is taking to a level not seen before. Similar to infusions of affirmations in essential oils to change the way people feel, Creo Mundi adds to their products the “intent” of positive energy by printing positive words on the inside of the clothing. They not only do this with one word, they add over 200 words in 15 languages from around the world.

Intentional nutrition for example has already been studied and published (see www.intentionalchocolate.com; "Effects of Intentionally Enhanced Chocolate on Mood", by Dean Radin). Intent and water crystal formation has been documented previously by Dr. Masaru Emoto (Messages in Water – 6 different books now), and in clinical trials with other institutions (DOUBLE-BLIND TEST OF THE EFFECTS OF DISTANT INTENTION ON WATER CRYSTAL FORMATION Dean Radin, PhD,1# Gail Hayssen,1 Masaru Emoto, BA,2 and Takashige Kizu, BA2).

I understand that studies may be taking place this year with Creo Mundi intentional clothing to measure the effect on mood or events when wearing the products. I don’t believe that talking about Creo Mundi and the revolutionary step they are taking to promote more positive energy on the planet is simply advertising. The company is receiving more and more attention as the developer of a leading-edge concept, with both radio and TV attention. Talking about Creo Mundi in this manner (Misplaced Pages) does not appear to be any different than the entry for the Kodak company, Creo, that is currently in Misplaced Pages.

M.I.A. (band)

You deleted the above article. The speedy deletion notice said that a "hangon" tag combined with an entry on the talk page would protect against this. The article had both.

Can you please restore, if not to the main wiki than to my user space. I have read the notability guidelines and this band clearly complies. Thank you. Gaohoyt (talk) 19:32, 13 January 2008 (UTC)

Hi, I deleted your recent article because it did not provide independent verifiable sources that it meets the notability guidelines. The fact that a band exists and has made recordings does not automatically make it notable, you need to give references. Note that "hang-on" is not binding, although perhaps I might have tagged the article as unsourced instead. I'll put the text here shortly. Jimfbleak (talk) 06:29, 14 January 2008 (UTC)
Got it, thanks. But before I spend time fixing it, I want to know what the rules are and whether you (and others) intend to follow them. The guidelines say two albums from a major independent label or one compilation appearence. What would constitute an "independent verifiable source" of this fact? I listed the albums. Do I need a link, say to amazon.com, showing they really exist?
Also, why is there a hangon tag if admins are free to ignore it? Another thing to waste the editors' time, I guess. Gaohoyt (talk) 16:21, 14 January 2008 (UTC)
If you look at this, it's actually pretty clear what evidence is needed. It's not enough to show that the records exist, you need to fulfil one or more of the criteria to establish that the band rates an article - your article didn't give the record labels or any indication of chart success.
The point of "hang-on" is that it alerts admins that a case is being made against deletion. It cannot be binding, or bad faith/trivial reasons would make it difficult to speedy delete even total rubbish. Jimfbleak (talk) 16:46, 14 January 2008 (UTC)
Yes, it is clear from this. It is clear that the article I wrote satisfies both criteria #5 and #10. But it was deleted.
Look, I appreciate your help, and I'm willing to beef up the article, maybe state what the label was (Alternative Tentacles, I believe). I just don't want to waste my time if the real rule is "no alternative bands need apply". The published guidelines don't seem to be the real ones in this case. Barnstar

The Original Barnstar
For your excellent contributions to improving the quality of Misplaced Pages's bird articles and for staying calm as the Chiffchaff FAC devolved into a policy debate, I award you this barnstar. Rufous-crowned Sparrow (talk) 21:16, 14 January 2008 (UTC)
Personally, I don't think that there is a real problem with the measurement thing. The quoted bit of MOS said that the metric system alone was acceptable if there was consensus, and I believe that MPF was the only one who argued for solely metric out the seven or so users who replied. Some expressed their disgust with us backwards Americans, but they still supported both systems. Seeing how there is no consensus for one system, I do not see how measurements alone can be an actional oppose. Rufous-crowned Sparrow (talk) 21:36, 15 January 2008 (UTC)

Hi, Jim, Am not sure why you have deleted the Winjit Page. The intent shows as it was deleted because it was advertising but I think it was a page initiated by me for my company, and I had just sent an email to 10 colleuages in our company to contribute to it.

Please advise if that is termed as Advertising. Ashwinkandoi (talk) 09:33, 15 January 2008 (UTC)

Deletion of James H. Cobb

An editor has asked for a deletion review of James H. Cobb. Since you closed the deletion discussion for this article, speedy-deleted it, or were otherwise interested in the article, you might want to participate in the deletion review. --DocumentN (talk) 21:19, 15 January 2008 (UTC)

King Vulture

I noticed your recent edits to the King Vulture article. Are you sure that Linneaus did not describe the bird as Gyparchus papa? While I do not have access to his original works, this souce, page 35, says that he did. If you are sure, do you have any ideas where the source could have gotten that line from? Thanks. Rufous-crowned Sparrow (talk) 00:30, 17 January 2008 (UTC)

Wow, thanks for finding both of those references- never knew that they existed. I'll modify the King Vulture article now, and probably rewrite the Painted Vulture section, as no one has verified the source yet. Good job with the Pintail fixes and see you after your break (I've got one coming this weekend too). Rufous-crowned Sparrow (talk) 17:22, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
That link scared me. Why do all of these authors feel compelled to do that, particularly in minor spelling varients (shudders)? Anyways, I'll be gone for a three day break soonish, but thanks for the link and betterment of my phrasing. Rufous-crowned Sparrow (talk) 21:10, 18 January 2008 (UTC)

Rollback is only for vandalism

You should not have used rollback here: It's an easy mistake to make, but please remember that rollback is only for reverting vandalism. The reason for this is that there are mechanisms that flag edits made in relation to ones reverted using rb. By using rollback inappropriately, you'll be subjecting users to an increased risk of unwarranted blocks. Thanks for listening. Samsara (talk  contribs) 13:48, 17 January 2008 (UTC)

Willington Church

Hi, I have noticed that you claim to have provided the photograph of the church in the village of Willington, Derbyshire. Would you know who the vicar is at this moment in time?

Thanks for your time, Matt.

Birds of South Asia. The Ripley Guide

Hi - could you talk a look at the above? I'm working my through it trying to deal with some of the issues I've listed in the todolist on its talk page, with the aim of submitting it for GA status and perhaps FA in due course. Any thoughts on which of the list I should concentrate on, or whether there are other things I need to do to the article, would be much appreciated. Cheers. SP-KP (talk) 18:41, 19 January 2008 (UTC)

And (sorry, forgot to ask in earlier message) - do you have HBW10? I'm only up to vol 7 so far. If so, I don't suppose you could edit footnote 18 (and add an entry to the refs list) to make it consistent with footnote 14? Thanks SP-KP (talk) 19:00, 19 January 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for those comments (and advance thanks for the ones to come) - I think I've dealt all so far, either with an edit, or with an addition of an item to the todolist to do at some future point. Someone at WP:BIRD must have HBW, so I've posted a RFH. SP-KP (talk) 21:36, 19 January 2008 (UTC)

Thanks - those are really useful additional comments. I'll give it some more work. SP-KP (talk) 10:47, 20 January 2008 (UTC)

Tarish language

Hello Jimfbleak, I would appreciate your help with this proposal for deletion: . Somehow I seem to be too stupid (or too German) for using the right template for creating a discussion page like the one created by your earlier similar proposal: Misplaced Pages:Votes for deletion/Tarish language. I have put my reasons for deletion on the article discussion page, but I think that this is not where they should belong. Many thanks, --84.60.227.142 (talk) 14:02, 20 January 2008 (UTC)
