Jonathan de Guzmán (b. September 12 1987, Toronto, Canada) is a Canadian-born Dutch midfielder playing for Feyenoord Rotterdam of the Eredivisie. He is of Jamaican and Filipino descent and is the younger brother of Julián de Guzmán, who plays for the Canadian national team and Deportivo la Coruña in Spain.

Jonathan was born in Toronto, Ontario. He lived with his older brother Julian, his also older sister Jenelle and his parents in Scarborough, a small town near Toronto. Ever since he was a kid, Jonathan played football. His father would like to see him and his brother to play basketball, but after it was shown that they had a bigger chance of success in football, their father supported them in the sport. One of his father's advises was to train as much as possible, in order to progress. And Jonathan did, playing on a point for 3 different clubs, which means that he would train 6 times per week, not including the training for his brother's club.

When Jonathan was 10 years old, his brother Julian was discovered by Olympique Marseille and was given a chance to play for their youth facility. Jonathan lost his best friend, but became even more motivated to become a professional footballer. At age 12, Jonathan was discovered by Feyenoord. The interest would mean that he would have to move to Rotterdam. His parents were saddened by having to let their second son go, but they gave him full support.

At Feyenoord, he quickly turned out to have a great potential and was regarded as one of the greatest talents in the club. He was not allowed to play for the first team before he was 18 years old, but at his birthday, he had his debut against SC Heerenveen. After that, he has become a key player quite quickly. Jonathan scored his first professional goal in the 9th minute against Willem II on September 30 2005. His squad number is 33.

He recently signed a contract extension with Feyenoord until 2010. His old contract was set to expire in 2008. Jonathan de Guzmán applied for Dutch citizenship last year and it has now been granted. This has been confirmed on the official website of Feyenoord.
