	The discussion is closed, so I'll explain here. It gives away the geographical location of the user via WHOIS (take, for example, ] and ). In some cases, the WHOIS information resolves to a person. In some cases, that IP address may be used to correlate activity for other things for sites whose privacy policies may be less strict than the Wikimedia Foundation's. And for some ISPs, an IP address may be assigned to a very small geographical area, and with other habits for that user, can be used to trace someone in real life.
