Retired This user is no longer active on Misplaced Pages. It's hard to say goodbye to a community that I have been a part of for seven years. During my time as a contributor to Misplaced Pages, I have grown tremendously as a writer, and have added in many ways, large and small, to countless numbers of articles, and have participated in countless numbers of discussions. However, I have come to realize within the past year that I have reached both the limits of what I can accomplish within the Misplaced Pages community, and also the limits of my patience in interacting with other members of the Misplaced Pages community. Thus I feel that it is time for me to move on.
While I still believe in Misplaced Pages's mission to amass the sum of all human knowledge, I fear that the project may fail because the community will, over time, destroy itself due to what I perceive as constant infighting, the holding of long-term grudges by many users, and general rudeness and incivility on the part of many, which has an alienating effect on other users, both new and seasoned. As an administrator, I received more abuse than I would ever wish on anyone that is doing volunteer work, and this often extended beyond Misplaced Pages to my website, my Facebook, my Twitter, and my personal email, despite my best efforts to direct all Misplaced Pages-related inquiries back to Misplaced Pages. Because of this, I was never really able to escape from Misplaced Pages, even when using it for research, and it took a toll on me, turning what might otherwise have been an enjoyable activity into a chore, causing me to dread seeing the orange "You have new messages" bar come up, because it inevitably meant having to listen to more whining.
I soon found it increasingly difficult for me to justify to myself why I was still doing volunteer work for a project that I no longer found enjoyable. When I logged out of Misplaced Pages by choice and left it logged out, I soon came to realize that by not participating in Misplaced Pages, my stress levels went down, and I generally found myself to be much happier.
I believe that my best days are still ahead of me, but now it is time for me to forge my own path, endeavoring in new works and projects separate from those of the Misplaced Pages community. I wish all of you the best in your future endeavors, and perhaps our paths will cross again some day. SchuminWeb (Talk) 06:49, 20 December 2012 (UTC)
Westfield Wheaton
Just because you aren't aware of something doesn't mean it's "controversial." I attended the downtown Wheaton redevlopment meeting earlier this month at which a Westfield official announced the lease signing. Dan Reed, on whose blog you read about the Kohl's announcement, was also in attendance. Moreover, Kohl's has solicited bids for electrical and other work to prepare the old IFL site for its new store.
So stop stalking my changes, and find something better to do with your time.
Just because you think you're hot stuff online (Misplaced Pages and elsewhere) doesn't mean your opinions about an edit's importance trump anyone else's... especially not mine.
Toodles. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 198.3.128.3 (talk • contribs)
- You need to find a reliable source in order to verify the information. Misplaced Pages operates on verifiability, not truth, per se. I went looking for reliable sources, and found zero. In fact, most I found at all was a blog, which is insufficiently reliable for our purposes here.
- Additionally, in regards to "stalking your changes", I have had Westfield Wheaton on my watchlist for some time. It has nothing to do with you individually, so please don't make it that. SchuminWeb (Talk) 15:03, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
I just gave you the reliable sources. It doesn't get any more reliable than straight from the Westfield rep's mouth (check the minutes when they're put online, or call the redevelopment committee and ask to view the draft minutes in person, which shouldn't be a big burden since you, by your own admission, have nothing better to do with your life than put a suburban shopping mall on your "watchlist"). And, since you reverted once my edits yet again, I'm reporting you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 198.3.128.3 (talk • contribs)
- First of all, keep your personal attacks to yourself. Such behavior is not permitted on Misplaced Pages.
- Secondly, in regards to the content dispute, once again, I need a written, reliable source to back that up. I have searched, and found nothing. You so far have come up with nothing in the area of reliable sources.
- Additionally, as this is primarily over a content dispute on a single article, any further discussion should occur at Talk:Westfield Wheaton. SchuminWeb (Talk) 15:18, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
AfD nomination of Mr. Smoothie
An editor has nominated Mr. Smoothie, an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Misplaced Pages's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Misplaced Pages is not").
Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Misplaced Pages:Articles for deletion/Mr. Smoothie and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).
You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 02:29, 2 February 2008 (UTC)

I had copied the article to my userspace at User:Gadget850/Shenandoah Acres. Please edit this as you like. I had done some searching at the library here, but have not really found any references yet. --— Gadget850 (Ed) - 12:16, 5 February 2008 (UTC)
Navy Yard
You removed the external link to jdland.com that I had added. That's totally cool. When I was cleaning up the article this morning, I added it because of the pictures she took of the construction going on around the metro entrances. You mentioned in the edit summary that it could go somewhere else. I put the link in the Navy Yard/Near Southeast article. I did alot of work on the Near Southeast article the past 2 days, so check it out if you want. Also, some of the pictures I added in the Navy Yard/Near Southeast article are from Jacqueline's website (jdland.com) and she told me through e-mail conversationd that I could use them as long as she got credit. Someone has marked them for speedy deletion and I don't know what to do about it. Suggestions? Thanks for your help.--AgnosticPreachersKid (talk) 20:33, 5 February 2008 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Shenandoah Acres Pink Zipper.jpg)
Thanks for uploading Image:Shenandoah Acres Pink Zipper.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Misplaced Pages under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Misplaced Pages. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Misplaced Pages (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Misplaced Pages page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot (talk) 01:56, 12 February 2008 (UTC)

Keader Keaton
Thank you for your help with the Keader Keaton article and pointing out the things needed. I am new to this and I will take all of the help anyone is willing to offer. It took the better part of my Sunday to understand the rules and processes to add an article to Misplaced Pages.
I still have a lot of writing to do on this, but in the end it will be very helpful for people researching the time frame (before / after the Revolutionary war), the first Cherokee War, Revolutionary Patriots, early Georgia and the Keaton family. I am being very careful to only add factual events, but it does take a lot out of the story out.
If you get a chance please take a look at the article now. I did add most of the references, citations, and even a picture of one of his Revolutionary Land grants.
Also, great pictures on your website. I liked the water fountain. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Skeaton (talk • contribs) 00:18, 19 February 2008 (UTC)
- Since this is going to be mostly article-related discussion on Keader Keaton, I'm going to continue my comments at Talk:Keader Keaton. As for my site... what water fountain? - I need a little help. You helped me a lot with my Keader Keaton article that took a long time to put together correctly. Someone has come along and ereased the entire thing. I hope that tha can be recovered. It was deleted and only a line has been added to Richmond county SC. What can be done to fix it back to the status of the past. I will be online tomorrow. thank in advance for helping me with this. SK(Skeaton (talk) 22:43, 7 March 2008 (UTC))
- Please just let me know what can be done to recover this information. It is a little disappointing to know that one individual's opinion can be so destructive. I see many other articles of in my opinion less relevant than Keader Keaton, like the first article added by Veritas (the individual that deleted Keader’s article) about Shah Mahmoud Hanifi. This is an assistant history professor at James Madison University, which is “Veritas.” From my understanding Misplaced Pages is not to be used for self promotion. Even if it is not him, why in the world is an assistant professor given more wiki space than the current president Linwood Rose or even all 5 past presidents? At any rate, can you help me with this? I do not want to go in and undo another article and mess it up. I am coming to you because you have been a great source for guidance. Thank you, SK(Skeaton (talk) 14:09, 8 March 2008 (UTC))

Hi, I would like to explain the reasoning I had for removing a link from the Laurel Hill Tunnel page. If you look at the IP's contributions, you will see that he added in a link from that site to an immense number of pages. More likely than not he has a COI. If you still think that it should be in, that is fine with me; I just wanted to explain my reasoning. Thank you. Zach4636 (talk) 15:48, 23 February 2008 (UTC)
- I saw it as still having value, albeit in a modified form. Reminds me of when someone posted links from an ocean liner Web site to a whole bunch of articles - in the articles I was watching, it was indeed beneficial to the article where it was placed. Because of not looking at it big-picture-wise, I looked at it individually, and yeah, it had merit on Laurel Hill. SchuminWeb (Talk) 15:51, 23 February 2008 (UTC)

Speedy deletion for Documentum page
I'm the original author for the Documentum wikipedia page which I just found out was deleted earlier today. I am an industry analyst with many years of experience in the content mansgement industry. I simply sought to write a factual chronology of the company, its history, growth, evolution, and current product capabilities, much of it derived from original sources (including my own threading through various tech news sources). Thus I must take exception to your characterization as being 'blatently advertising' and thus subject to speedy deletion.
In particular, the last time I viewed the article -- probably a week or two ago -- I did not find any comment from anybody to suggest that the article contained inappropriate or commercial information. Thus I am surprised that the article was deleted so quickly and without any rating, judgement, or comment from other wikipedians.
I simply seek to produce, in tone and factual content, an article about an important enterprise software vendor (now part of a major computer compay). My article seeks to cover the topic and be like other entries about technology companies found on wikipedia. I notice under the blatant advertising rule "Note that simply having a company or product as its subject does not qualify an article for this criterion." (See:http://en.wikipedia.org/Wikipedia:CSD#G11).
Thus, I do not understand your judgement. I think this is an important article that should be reinstated. Can you please let me know what needs now needs to be fixed so that the article can be reinstated, and continue to be refined by other wikipedians.

Thanks for the tip and your personal note
Dear Ben, regarding my attempts to edit "March 17, 2007 anti-war protest"... Thank you for the tip and the explanation. I have edited very few wikipedia articles and am a novice at this. I admit that I hold a bit of a grudge against GOE from my own expereince on their message board. They claim to support the troops (me) but seem to be against lawful freedom of speech, such as protest group near a war memorial that could be considered a "back drop." I am sworm to protect and defend the Constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic, and I have made many sacrifices over 22 years to do that; with quite a bit of time in Southeast Asia, such as Kobar Towers were I lodge for 7 months before they blew my building up. Freedom of speech, especially protest, is sacred to me. And the GOE's aggresive stance against that Constitutional right pisses me off. So I guess it is hard for me to remain "neutral" on this subject. Therefore, I apologize for breaking wikipedia protocal, and I certainly had no intention to "vandalize." I was just trying to add more information, although I admit my facist charge against them is arguable. Anyway thanks for clarifying.
Kindest Regards Ben,

Image fair use rationales
Hey there. I felt compelled to leave you a message regarding this. Firstly, please don't get me wrong - I fully understand (and agree with) the need for 'non-free' images to include an appropriate rationale. However, I am concerned about the 'value' potentially being lost by the project by tackling the problem in this way. Take, as an example, the image which you notified me about: Image:WhereTheBloodyHellAreYou.jpg. It's a low resolution screenshot from a copyrighted television advertisement. We'd never be able to get a 'free' image to do the job. So... the image needs to include a fair use rationale, I'm not arguing with that. What I am wanting to point out is that I feel users (including, but certainly not limited to, yourself) who want to help the project out with the massive backlog of such images might do better to put the time and effort into adding some fair use rationales yourself, rather than tagging such images for deletion. In terms of value to the project, we risk the original uploaders not being available to, or not being bothered, to add the rationale and images being lost. In the case above, I think that would mean real value lost from the article in question. Just my viewpoint. └/talk 22:23, 27 February 2008 (UTC)

- No, it will not come up using Misplaced Pages's in-house search, using the in-house search's default settings. The idea is that it's in your userspace to improve it to something encyclopedic, with reliable, third-party sources. If all you want is for people to find it, with no consideration to the quality of the article, then I would be wrong to have assumed good faith in userfying the page in order for you to improve it. I went ahead and tagged the article for speedy deletion because of little or no context to assert any notability whatsoever. I think it is a small school program that does not belong on wikipedia. Also, I have a favor to ask. Template:Trivia and In popular culture sections
Just so you know, Temp:Trivia is only for tagging indiscriminate and unselective lists, per WP:TRIV, and this does not include "in popular culture" lists, which are discriminate and selective. Cheers, --NickPenguin(contribs) 04:03, 2 March 2008 (UTC)
- Most "popular culture" sections are unreferenced and irrelevant trivia sections, and should be tagged as such. SchuminWeb (Talk) 04:18, 2 March 2008 (UTC)
- Template:trivia is not for tagging lists that one editor considers trivial, it is for tagging and eventually eliminating indiscriminate lists, which are bad because they can grow to near infinite length. If you have issues with a list or section concerning issues like references or relevancy, try tagging with {fact} or {cleanupsection} tags, or be bold and remove exceptionally irrelevant items. --NickPenguin(contribs) 05:47, 2 March 2008 (UTC)
3DSlicer
The creator of the article 3DSlicer, which I tagged as a copyvio and you deleted on the 24th, has turned up to the talk page (Talk:3DSlicer) to say they've got permission. I'm not sure whether they've gone through all the relevant steps to credibly justify permission, so I thought I'd inform you (as deleting admin) of their apparent desire to start the page again. --Sturm 12:49, 2 March 2008 (UTC)

Deutz Geldermann
Hi, quick question. You were one of the admins to speedy this following my tag, but it's back for the third time. It's still spammy with no assertion of notability. Should I re-tag it? I'm not sure what to do here since it keeps coming back. Thanks! TRAVELLINGCARITell me yours 13:49, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
- There's discussion going on at the talk page, so I'd join in that discussion rather than tagging again. SchuminWeb (Talk) 14:44, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
- I've done so, just wasn't sure what procedure was. Thanks! TRAVELLINGCARITell me yours 16:03, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
Re:Thanks
No problem. I'm happy to help whack those vandals. I don't know why he was so content in getting it that way, but at least he is blocked for a time, so maybe he will learn his lesson. Juliancolton 01:07, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
Just so you're aware...
I reverted this vandalism to your talk page navigation. Nwwaew (Talk Page) (Contribs) (E-mail me) 18:27, 5 March 2008 (UTC)

Yeah, I was sure I had clicked remember me and was logged in, but apparently not. Just realized when you sent that message. --Wolfenhawk 23:52, 7 March 2008 (UTC)
- Um, okay. I have no idea what message I sent to you... SchuminWeb (Talk) 01:03, 8 March 2008 (UTC)

Gerald R Wagner deletion
Can you tell my why the page that i made was deleted and why the other one that i made is in the process of being deleted.
You deleted the page on Gerald R Wagner. He is a Large Buisness man in the midwest.
Can you also let me know why Planners Lab is being deleted and what i need to do to stop it.
Thanks —Preceding unsigned comment added by Kclinden (talk • contribs) 16:56, 9 March 2008 (UTC)
- Correct, I did delete Gerald R. Wagner under speedy deletion criterion A7 as a non-notable biography. As for Planners Lab, that is currently undergoing a discussion in Articles for Deletion. You're more than welcome to contribute to that discussion. SchuminWeb (Talk) 17:36, 9 March 2008 (UTC)
Project Energia Buran
Actually, I checked and their video essay on the decay of DeJarnette is already in the "External links" for the Commonwealth Center for Children and Adolescents article. They've got a neat project and they've got some value to add, just not as a general external link for Staunton. Do you know any of them?
I just notice that Linkfurrow (presumably Link Furrow of the Project) readded the link. I'll talk to him on his talk page. Feel free to join in. –BozoTheScary (talk) 17:50, 9 March 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah, I went to middle school with Link. Nice guy. The project certainly does have a lot to add, but it needs to be specific to the topics at hand. SchuminWeb (Talk) 17:53, 9 March 2008 (UTC)
