The Imperial Gazetteer of India first appeared in 1881; Sir William Wilson Hunter (1840-1900) was the creator. It has 25 volumes, including one containing the index .
A parallel series of publications known as the Imperial Gazetteer of India: Provincial Series were prepared.
The book has been made available online, partly, at Digital South Asia Library.
