Shortcuts WP:RFPP WP:RFP WP:RPP Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Edit-warring is very recent, and restricted to a couple of words in the Info box and text about nicknames for the team. Declined the edit warring was not entirely restricted to anonymous users and thus down-grading to semi-protection would be a de facto endorsement of the preferred version of logged in users. The protection expires in less than 24 hours anyway. CIreland (talk) 14:47, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

Question:I'm not sure WP:PROT precludes the use of semi-protection - though I can see the point. However WP:PROT also says that administrators normally protect the current version, except where the current version contains content which clearly violates content policies, such as obvious vandalism or copyright violations. However the page protection did protect a "joke" vandalism about Red Squirrels that hadn't in itself been part of the edit war, and is clearly not true. Attempts to remove this vandalism by normal means during page protection have been slow, and so far futile. Perhaps if there was a faster process of fixing protected pages, then full protection would be appropriate. Can you either semi-protect, or at least remove the vandalism for which there is no consensus. Nfitz (talk) 15:47, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

Additionally, 64.140.0.3 blanked his/her Talk Page and deleted my comments from the User Page of Alkclark, which indicates to me that this may be the same person who attempted to log out and use an IP to make the same edits. unprotection requested. First Mikkalai protected his preferred version of the page, which is against Misplaced Pages rules (surely an adminstrator would know that?). Once this was spotted and an admin unprotected the page, he merely got one of his administrator friends to protect it for several weeks for him, thus avoiding the prohibition. I'm sure I requested this here before but I'm not going to trawl through the archives... The template is no different from countless other templates like it that are not protected, and there is no history of vandalism. • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. This image seems to have been protected from its inception and then plastered all of over wikipedia biographical articles. There is currently a debate over its use, including concerns of violations of wikipedia policy. semi-protect. We had a month of protection in February, and the IP vandalism resumed on 1-Mar. So we got another month, from 4-Mar to 4-Apr; that expired and sure enough the IP vandals are back.
