The former lead singer for the Pakistani patriotic band Awaz, Haroon returned to the music scene at the turn of the century when he released his solo album Haroon ki Awaz ('Haroon's voice') in October 2000. His second album Lagan ('desire' or 'attachment') was released in September 2002. Haroon is known for the uniqueness in his albums, his tendency to mix genres and experiment with amalgams of cultures. In this, he is in part representative of a new style of Music of Pakistan that is heavily influenced by western pop. His songs are most frequently performed in Urdu, Punjabi, and Arabic, but he has shown some more variety, for example, in his hit song Mahbooba to which he adds some Arabic lyrics.
