==Plot== | |||
After the events in the last episode, Carla has decided to stay at Elliot's for a while as she and Turk try to fix their relationship. They agree to have brunch on an upcoming day to see where they're at. Carla is currently depressed while Turk seems to be handling the situation rather well. The fact that the two-year anniversary of her mother's death is approaching doesn't help Carla out of her funk. When Elliot asks J.D. how he helped Turk, he explains that he made it "all about him". This inspires Elliot to throw a "party" celebrating Carla's mother's life with cake and an old answering machine with messages from her on it. It starts off fine, but things take a turn for the worst when the messages repeat how little Carla calls her mother. To make up for this, Elliot decides to take Carla to her mother's grave so she can talk to her directly. Elliot winds up falling into a fresh grave pit, but she encourages Carla to go on anyway.
Meanwhile, to lift Turk's spirits, J.D. takes him to a bar so that they could show off what they learned in bartending school. Turk thinks about leaving early so that he can think about what he's going to say to Carla at their brunch the next day, but J.D. convinces him to stay. The next day, J.D. finds out that Turk overslept and missed the brunch since they were out too late last night. At first, J.D. tries to make amends by talking to Carla and Elliot about why Turk missed it, but Turk reveals to J.D. that he didn't oversleep; he decided not to go. He continues to explain that he feels that marriage should be hassle-free and shouldn't be as complicated as it is.
Also, Kelso hounds Cox about him not being courteous enough with his patients, but Cox refutes by asking Kelso when the last time he dealt with a patient was. Kelso takes him up on his challenge and takes a patient. The patient, Ms. Goldman, is overweight and she gives Kelso a hard time being that she already knows everything that's wrong with her and is continuously annoyed by having everything repeated to her. When she decides to have gastric bypass surgery, Kelso tries to intervene by telling her the inherent risks involved compared to dieting, but she states that she doesn't care what he has to say about it. As Cox and Kelso reminicse about the days that doctors used to be more respected, Cox tells him that if you're going to be dealing with patients, you should be as straight up with them as possible, courteous or not.
Kelso, not playing games anymore, marches into Ms. Goldman's room where Turk is since he's the one operating her surgery. He explains to the both of them that they need to stop trying to take the easy way out of their respective situations and to start doing the work to fix whatever's wrong. When Turk hears this, he rushes to the cemetary where Carla is talking to her mother's grave. He asks her to come back home, but she says that she still needs a little time. He stays with her as she continues to talk with her mother.
