Pongidae ("Great apes") is a proposed family which in some classifications includes gorillas, chimpanzees, and orangutans. Along with Hylobatidae and Hominidae, it comprises the superfamily Hominoidea.
Another classification does away with the family Pongidae and includes the great apes in Hominidae.
