Note: Before adding anything to the list, see the talk page to see if it complies with the definition of a fad.
The website ytmnd.com is known for its tendency to propagate a great number of fads and in-jokes. The list that follows identifies several major such fads; as such, it may be incomplete. Note that the fads almost never consist of only the elements indicated for them; indeed, the fads could not be as popular without variation. Also, these variations tend to include elements from other fads.
Movie/Television-related fads
- The infamous KHAAAAAAAAAAAAN!!! scream from Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. This was the very first major (and one of the strongest ongoing) fad on YTMND.
- "The Picard Tribute", based on "The Picard Song" by DarkMateria, a song using samples from Star Trek: The Next Generation, centering on quotes from Captain Picard. This site has gathered over 1,000,000 views, making it the most popular ytmnd of all time. (View original YTMND)
- Two comical songs about AIDS the original from the movie Team America: World Police and the other from the TV series Family Guy. They are often accompanied by pictures having to do with Africa.
- Milton Waddams's line "I believe you have my stapler?" from the movie Office Space.
- Darius Rucker's Burger King Tender Crisp Bacon Cheddar Ranch ad
- The scene in The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie where SpongeBob and Patrick meet David Hasselhoff
- Conan O'Brien waving his arms like an alligator's jaws, paired with a loop of the song "Straight Ahead" by Tube & Berger.
- A scene from a Simpsons episode involving a Planet of the Apes musical play, including a parody of Falco's Rock Me Amadeus about Dr. Zaius.
- Ugoff, a self-important character in Burger King commercials who would say lines such as "Please. I am Ugoff." and "Ugoff is hungry!" Ugoff appeared to be a highly demanding model for some kind of fashion company.
- Pope Benedict XVI/Emperor Palpatine association
- Bill Nye The Science Guy, often accompanied with his theme song
- Darth Vader screaming "NOOOOO", taken from Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, toward the end of the movie.
- Admiral Ackbar's popular "It's a trap!" line from Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi. Originally, this fad came from fark.com, but it has been used often.
- A line from the Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog TV show, particually the "Sonic Says" segment in which Sonic the Hedgehog says what to do if someone tries to "touch you in a way that makes you uncomfortable" (that is, attempts rape).
- A Saturday Night Live skit (which the film A Night at the Roxbury was later based on) featuring Will Ferrell, Chris Kattan, and Jim Carrey in a car, accompanied by Haddaway's song "What is Love" playing in the background.
- Bill Cosby from a fictional "Kids Say the Darndest Things" skit shown on the show The Simpsons where he asks a child what he likes to play. The child says "Pokemon", which Cosby then rambles incoherently about.
- The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, and Zordon, their creator. The Zordon fad involves taking a song or a dialogue and altering it so that it sounds like Zordon. The Power Rangers fad usually includes either YTMND icons replacing the 5 Power Rangers, or just the Power Rangers used for a simple fad.
- Osaka (Ayumu Kasuga) of Azumanga Daioh, a popular anime (also a fad), throwing her shoe off into the street with her foot, followed by an unexpected fate for the shoe.
- Gene Wilder's line, "You lose! Good day sir!" from Willy Wonka And The Chocolate Factory. (Sometimes combined with the failing horns from The Price is Right)
- Monty Python's Michael Palin, Terry Gilliam, and Terry Jones's cry of "Nobody Expects the Spanish Inquisition!" This is usually placed as a surprise within a YTMND. (i.e - Link opens a treasure chest to pull out a new shiny bike, but he is intercepted by the crashing chord of the Spanish Inquisition!)
- The phrase "It's time to d-d-d-d-d-d-duel" from the anime Yu-Gi-Oh!
- "You're a wizard, Harry" from the movie Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone set to different people named Harry
- "Dead Nigger" from the movie Pulp Fiction, where Jimmie Vincent and Jules are talking about the wonderful choice of coffee that Jimmy made. Jimmy responds that he is not thinking about the coffee but instead he is thinking of "the dead nigger in my garage".
- Various YTMNDs showing the infamous Burger King "King" along with the phrase "Where is your God now?". Often, the Lord of the Rings trailer music plays in the background.
- Various sites feature Takeshi Kaga from Iron Chef eating various objects, the original being Kaga eating a bell pepper. Another Varation of the fad is Brian Peppers, A sex offender with a demented face.
- The scene in Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey where Bill and Ted are falling down "a really deep hole."
- Wayne Brady's line "Is Wayne Brady gonna have to choke a bitch?" from a sketch on Chappelle's Show. Words from a different phrase usually replace "choke a bitch" or the name Wayne Brady.
- Jamie Foxx smashing his head into a steering wheel.

- Dschinghis Khan's hit song "Moskau"
- The excerpt "Crawling in my skin/These wounds they will not heal," from the song "Crawling" by Linkin Park (often accompanied with the phrase "ANGST!") (The CRAWLING IN MY SKIN phrase was originally used to make fun of whiny forum users, attaching Linkin Park's angsty lyrics to their mood)

- Parodying the Playstation 3 controller, usually its resemblance to a boomerang.
- A scene from Mike Tyson's Punch-Out of Doc Louis riding a bike next to Little Mac, accompanied by the statement "Nigga stole my bike". The original image (third one down) was made by a member of Something Awful in a Photoshop Phriday. (Doc Louis's name in the fad appears to have been changed to simply "Nigga")
- There is a rumor (not confirmed) that the quote "Nigga stole my bike" comes from the game 'GTA: San Andreas'.
- Peppy Hare's catch phrase, "Do a Barrel Roll!" This has been joined with his other lines such as "Press Z or R twice!" and "They're on me!"
- A scene from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time where Link opens a treasure chest to find various objects.

- FPS Doug from the internet series Pure Pwnage saying "BOOM! HEADSHOT!"
- "WRYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY", a scream associated with the series JoJo's Bizarre Adventure and popularized in a Flash video disseminated widely through 4chan. The original video combined Dio Brando's "The World" super move, which could stop time; Dio's "Road Roller", in which he crushed his opponent with a steamroller, and Shadow Dio's "Charisma", in which he screams and sends sparks toward the opponent. Of these, the "Charisma" scream is most prevalent, followed by the "Road Roller" steamroller.

Politics related fads

- Terri Schiavo. Sites usually made fun of her and combined her with other fads. After her death in early 2005, the fad died down.
- Jack Thompson
- California Governor and actor Arnold Schwarzenegger
- Accidental sentences spoken by President George W. Bush. The most popular ones include "I hear there's rumors on the Internets" and "Actually he forgot Poland" Both of these in the 2004 Presidential debates.

- The original site ("You're the man now dog!")
- Tributes to other fads and/or YTMND itself that generally combine or incorporate many fads into a single YTMND.

Miscellaneous fads
- Failing at life or failing in general (using the losing horns from The Price is Right)
- Muhammad Hassan interrupting a scene, using his theme song that consists of some chants in an Arabic language, "Alleyliaaliaaa!". Hassan is known for interrupting people during his wrestling shows, which obviously inspired the fad.
- Gay Fuel, an energy drink marketed to homosexuals. Usually paired on YTMND with Baltimora's song "Tarzan Boy." The "Tarzan Boy" song is considered equivalent to homosexuality on YTMND now. This was a forced fad made by forum members.
- A young man named Mike, pictured apparently too drunk to stand. The original was accompanied with the text "Mike is Done," and it has since been mutated to the point that "Mike Done," has become his name by popular standard. This is another forced fad made by forum members.
- Shock sites.
- One of these is Ridin' Spinnas, which consists of an animated GIF of two men in anal sex, with the penis of the man on top spinning around. In the background is the song "Ridin' Spinners" by Triple 6 Mafia.
- A YTMND featuring Bethany Massamilla, a.k.a. BethanyM, an administrator for GameFAQs/GameSpot's forums. She became the prey of GameFAQs forum users, due to their hostility towards CJayC "selling his soul to GameSpot". One such example of BethanyM is "I AM BETHANYM", in which a picture of her is accompanied by an obviously male voice.
- Spoiler of an important plot point from Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. (The plot point in question is descibed in the previous link.) Borrowing from the "Gay Fuel" fad, this fad is also usually paired with the "Tarzan Boy" song.
- At one point (before the release of Half-Blood Prince), many Harry Potter YTMNDs were being created by one user, usually consisting of nothing more than an image of Harry Potter. However, this fad sparked a backlash, and people started to post YTMNDs insulting the most prolific Harry Potter site creator, known as Cage. Within a couple days, all of Cage's sites were deleted.
- Pictures of the FBI, SWAT team or other covert and/or tactical law enforcement agencies accompanied with the text "BRB FBI." This fad grew from the forum and the repeated threats of FBI involvement against its users made in reprisal for raids on Natalee Holloway sites.
- Brian Peppers, a sex offender in Ohio with an abnormal appearance, due to a disease linked to Treacher Collins Syndrome.
- Pictures of plane, train, automobile and boat crashes called "Great Moments in _____ History." These are set to a music clip from Gorillaz' "Feel Good, Inc." - in particular, the line, "watch the way I navigate - ha ha ha ha ha!"
- Summoning a fire spirit (The music from The Lord of the Rings trailer that is associated with the fad also became a fad of its own. The music is originally from the movie Requiem for a Dream.)
- A picture from an X-Men comic showing the wheelchair bound Professor X getting pushed down the stairs by Colossus, declaring stairs as Professor X's only weakness.
