Sometimes referred to by his character name "Tanner" during his teenage years. In a 1998 Los Angeles Times article, it was noted that he was working in a flower shop in Utah. The article also talked about Barnes' belatedly collecting some savings bonds being held by the California courts that he had earned during his acting career under the Coogan Law .
There is sometimes confusion between Christopher J. Barnes and another actor named Chris Barnes who appeared in the Seinfeld episode "The Pez Dispenser" in 1992 and later in the TV series Life with Bonnie; they are not the same person.
