Milton W. Luter (born 1978), better known by the stage name Mick Luter, is an American rapper based in Chicago, Illinois.

Biography

Early life

Mick was born in Dallas, Texas and moved to Chicago at an early age. He graduated from Whitney Young High School in 1996 (same high school as NBA player Quentin Richardson) with the nickname "TD Milt" because of his array of touchdown catches on the high school football field. Mick then ventured out to Philadelphia and attended Temple University for two years. Luter has been influenced by artists such as Curtis Mayfield, The D.O.C., Nas and The Dramatics to name a few. His stage name is derived from Luter which means "struggle" in French and happens to be his real last name. Mick has one child JaMil Luter born in 2005 with Jamese Fields who also attended Whitney Young.

Career

Luter released his first LP, "My Word" in 2003. The LP which was largely produced by producer No I.D. received critical acclaim leaving hip hop heads starving for their next meal. Luter was declared artist to watch in 2005 and also received allhiphop's Breeding Ground Artist Of The Month. Mick has shared the mic with Lupe Fiasco, Stack Bundles, The Dramatics, Slum Village, Bump J and Black Elephant. After releasing "The Mickstape Vol.1-Hustle Harder" and connecting with super producer SC(Mobb Deep, Puffy, Mary J. Blige, Saigon), Luter quickly became artist to watch for in 2007. Luter uses, but did not coin, the phrase "WHADOWN" as a Chi-town version of "What's up."

In 2007, Luter defeated over 3,000 contestants in a contest sponsored by Original Signal/Sony/Epic Records which led to a situation with Sony/Epic Records. The deal never went anywhere and Mick began doing the independent thing. He will release "The Mickstape Vol.2-At The Table" as well as his debut album produced entirely by SC yet to be titled. Many hip hop enthusiasts feel that Luter is the one that could finally have that distinguising Chicago sound.
