Template:Info box musical artist 2 Lisa Lee Dark (born 16 April, 1981 in Swansea, Wales), is a Welsh singer and actress. She is a child star and has achieved great success but has remained virtually unknown throughout her career, but that began to change when she launched her solo career.
= Early life =
Dark was born in Swansea, Wales, a place described by the world famous poet Dylan Thomas as the graveyard of ambition. Dark is related to two of the most famous women in the world from the last 200 years, Adelina Patti and Bette Davis. During her childhood Dark was raised as a boy, this is because of a rare medical condition that she was born with. Lisa Lee was born with a condition called Congenital adrenal hyperplasia. During her childhood doctors failed to realise that she was female because whilst she was in her mother’s womb she was over exposed to the male hormone testosterone. In some severe cases, like Lisa Lee’s, the female sex organ becomes enlarged so it resembles the male sex organ, then the doctors believe the child to be male. This is how a female child can be wrongly classified as male. Lisa Lee has two x chromosomes making her biologically female; she even has ovaries and a womb, making it possible for her to have children.
Growing up life was difficult for the shy youngster. She was very much a loner but due to this she got very badly bullied. Dark would hate going to school because she knew that the bullies would make her life hell, she would regularly get spat at, kicked, punched and have obscene things screamed at her. Dark’s home life wasn’t much better as her parents had drink and money problems. Dark grew up being told by her parents that she was the least important thing to them, they told her that they wished that she was dead. Dark believes that this is what pushed her into the entertainment industry.
To get away from the family troubles Dark would walk the streets at night, but this only brought her more problems because she was badly abused by a paedophile group. Growing up all Dark wanted was to die. She would regularly pray to god for him to end her life and suffering.
= Acting career =
Dark’s career in the entertainment industry began with acting. She first starred in a European advert but Dark only got the job because she was in the right place at the right time, it turned out to be a case of mistaken identity. The production crew thought that Dark was the actor for the day; when Lisa Lee turned up they asked her if she was the person in question and she replied by saying yes. Dark was far too shy to tell to tell them the truth, she still to this day doesn’t know what happened to the original actor. She puts it all down to fate and destiny. Dark’s other acting roles have been voice over work on low budget European horror movies; she has also done voice over work on five Hollywood movies, although she says that they were only tiny parts and she never got credited on the films.
= Music career =
= = The beginning = =
Dark’s music career began at an early age and like her acting career it all happened by chance. Dark was heard singing in her local park by a record producer. He approached Lisa Lee and told her that he wanted to take her into the recording studio to record her voice, but she was only six years old and very shy so she told him no, but luckily he was very persistent. He needed to be, as it took him three years to convince the shy youngster to trust him enough to begin recording for him.
Lisa Lee began recording classical pieces of music for different soundtracks, for TV film and compilation albums, but once again fate stepped in and in 1992 Dark began to record dance music, but this was all by accident, like everything else in Dark’s career she was just in the right place at the right time, as there was no one else available to record the dance record, so Dark’s producer asked her to do it, this then became her first dance recording. Luckily for Dark several other producers and music production companies liked the sound of her voice, so they got her to record lead vocals for them on some of their dance recordings. Lisa Lee has sung on dance records that have gone on to sell over ten million copies world wide. Dark hasn’t just sung on danced records, she has also sung on other adult contemporary musical styles. Dark has also recorded lead vocals for the new age, Christian classical crossover group New Era, who have sold over six million albums world wide making Dark one of the most successful Christian music singers in the world.
= = Solo music career = =
In 1998 Dark signed her first solo recording contract, but she would have to wait almost a year before her record company released her debut dance album. In 1999 Dark released the album ‘The unknown story of Lisa Lee Dark’. There were three more dance albums released and Dark achieved moderate success selling 160,000 records for the dance record label VIP international records.
In 2004 Dark released her fifth studio album titled Breath of life. This would mark Dark’s attempt into the classical crossover music market as a solo artist, but due to problems out of Dark’s control this album turned out to be a huge flop.
= = The come back = =
In 2008 dark made a come back to the music industry with the release of her debut opera album, Sola, perduta, abbandonata. This album contains Dark’s debut opera performance in Puccini’s opera Turandot. Dark played the part of Liu. There was also a second album released,’ The screen behind the mirror’, this was a special limited edition album. The songs on this album are Dark’s debut opera recordings and her audition for the opera company that she is signed to.
