Released on August 1st, 2008, it was #4 in sales in nonfiction during the first week of its release. Corsi also co-wrote Unfit for Command, a book critical of Democratic candidate John Kerry during the 2004 US Presidential election.

Corsi recounts Obama's early political career in Chicago as well as his relationships with controversial figures such as Reverend Jeremiah Wright, William Ayers, Bernardine Dohrn, and Tony Rezko. Corsi also documents what he alleges are Obama’s radical political positions and affiliations.

Corsi's book has been criticized for its factual inaccuracies. Kate Linthicum of the Los Angeles Times wrote "being No. 1 doesn't necessarily mean being accurate" in regard to Corsi's claims about Obama's religious faith. MSNBC's Contessa Brewer confronted Corsi with these inaccuracies and asked "why do you get credibility for the book?". Corsi disputed Media Matters allegations.
