Maura Harrington (born 15th September 1953) is a spokeswoman for the Shell to Sea campaign. She lives in Doohoma, Ireland. A school principal by profession, on 9 September 2008 she began a hunger strike in protest at the arrival of the Solitaire, an Allseas pipe-laying ship assisting Royal Dutch Shell's Corrib gas project. The strike is taking place at the gates of the Shell compound in Glengad in Erris, in her car. Harrington has stated she will continue to refuse food until the ship has left Irish territorial waters. She was previously involved in the Miners' Strike. Despite repeated attempts by Harrington's adult children, using different forms of communication, Allseas have refused to communicate in any way with them on the matter. The strike ended after the Solitaire suffered damage to its "stinger" which it blamed on heavy seas .
