Subtropical Storm Laura is the twelfth named storm of the 2008 Atlantic hurricane season, and the first subtropical cyclone. Laura formed out of large non-tropical low pressure area located 1015 miles (1635 km) west of the western islands of the Azores on September 29.
Storm History
In the last week of September, a very large non-tropical system over the north-central Atlantic slowly moved westward away from the Azores. As it entered warmer waters, it slowly gained tropical characteristics and was declared Subtropical Storm Laura early on September 29.
Impact
Subtropical Storm Laura, as of September 29, is located over the open waters of the Central Atlantic and has not caused any impact on land.

Maximum sustained winds are 50 knots (60 mph, 95 km/h), with stronger gusts. Minimum central pressure is 995 mbar (hPa; 29.38 InHg), and the system is moving west-northwest at 7 kt (8 mph, 13 km/h).
