Georgians are one of the most ancient peoples of the world. Georgians are one of the Iberian-Caucasian peoples.
About 4 million Georgians (Kartveli eri or Kartvelebi in Georgian) live in the republic of Georgia (70% of the population), but there are also: about 2 million in Turkey (historical Georgian regions Tao-Klarjeti, Artaani (Ardagan) and Lazeti (Lazistan)), about 500,000 in Russia, more than 50,000 in Iran (Fereydoon Shahr, Najaf Abad, Rahmat Abad, Orji Mahalle), about 150,000 in Afganistan, about 50,000 in Azerbaijan (Kakhi, Belokani and Zakatala districts, who are parts of the historical Georgian region Saingilo) and about 100,000 in other countries (USA, France, Ukraine, Germany, Netherlands, etc.).
Ethnographic groups of the Georgian people are: Mingrelians (Megrels), Svans, Chani, Lazs, Imeretians, Guruls, Ajarians, Meskhs, Lechkhums, Rachvels, Kartlis, Kakhetians, Khevsurs, Tushs, Pshavs, Mokhevians, Ingilos.
