Template:Infobox Counties Ottawa County (standard abbreviation: OT) is a county located in the state of Kansas. As of 2000, the population is 6,163. The largest city and county seat is Minneapolis.

Geography

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,870 km² (722 mi²). 1,868 km² (721 mi²) of it is land and 2 km² (1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.11% water.

As of the census² of 2000, there are 6,163 people, 2,430 households, and 1,718 families residing in the county. The population density is 3/km² (8/mi²). There are 2,755 housing units at an average density of 1/km² (4/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 97.53% White, 0.54% Black or African American, 0.37% Native American, 0.13% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.32% from other races, and 1.09% from two or more races. 1.30% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 2,430 households out of which 31.60% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 61.40% are married couples living together, 6.30% have a female householder with no husband present, and 29.30% are non-families. 25.70% of all households are made up of individuals and 13.40% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.46 and the average family size is 2.96.

In the county the population is spread out with 25.70% under the age of 18, 5.80% from 18 to 24, 26.70% from 25 to 44, 24.20% from 45 to 64, and 17.60% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 40 years. For every 100 females there are 99.90 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 95.90 males.

The median income for a household in the county is $38,009, and the median income for a family is $46,033. Males have a median income of $30,761 versus $21,380 for females. The per capita income for the county is $17,663. 8.60% of the population and 5.10% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 8.80% of those under the age of 18 and 11.70% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
