This page lists the major characters in the Wario series of games. It includes both the Wario Land platform games and the WarioWare series, both made by Nintendo.

Wario Land series

Wario

Main article: Wario

Wario (ワリオ) was designed as an antagonist to Mario, and first appeared in the 1992 handheld video game Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins as the main villain and final boss. Since that time, Wario has developed into the protagonist and antihero of his own video game franchise spanning both handheld and console markets, in addition to his numerous appearances in spin-offs of the Mario series. He is voiced by Charles Martinet, who also voices the Mario, Luigi, and Waluigi characters.

Captain Syrup

Captain Syrup (キャプテン・シロップ, Kyaputen Shiroppu) is the main antagonist of Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3 and Wario Land 2. She is the leader of a legion of seafaring thieves known as the Black Sugar Pirates. She is a technological genius and inventor, constantly building mechanized apparati to assist her in attacking whatever target she chooses. The Pirates' base of operations is Kitchen Island, a gigantic coved island in the middle of the ocean, and their main mode of transportation is the S.S. Teacup, a massive pirate ship. In the first Wario Land game, Wario pursues Syrup in order to steal a giant golden statue of Princess Toadstool (now known as "Peach") that Syrup stole from Mario. After Syrup is defeated, she vows revenge on Wario. During the second game, she exacts her revenge by stealing all of Wario's treasure.

In Wario Land: The Shake Dimension for the Nintendo Wii (her first appearance since 1998 and her first home console appearance), she initially appears to inform Wario about the Shake King, as well as the legendary Bottomless Coin Sack he has kept hidden (though Syrup merely wants Wario to do the work of stealing it for her). Syrup also aids Wario by selling him various maps and items. It is the first time she is initially portrayed as an ally in a Wario game.

Wanda

Wanda (ワンダ) is a fairy who appears as the main character in Mario & Wario, where she aids either Mario, Yoshi or Princess Peach in maneuvering their way to Luigi, who can remove whatever object Wario has dropped on their head to blind them; as well as a guiding other characters, Wanda is used to combat Wario and his plane the Bulldog in the game's boss battles. Wanda returns in Wario's Woods, helping Toad in freeing the woods Wario and his minions have conquered.

Rudy the Clown

Rudy the Clown is the main antagonist of Wario Land 3. Rudy lures Wario into the music box world, claiming that he is the god of the world. He convinces Wario to help break the seal that was placed upon him by the other creatures of the world, with the promise of keeping any treasure Wario finds. After the seal is broken, Rudy reveals himself and attacks Wario. Wario defeats him, and the curse on the other inhabitants is broken. Rudy returns in the video game Dr. Mario 64, where he and Mad Scienstein concoct a plan to steal the Megavitamins from Dr. Mario because he has a cold, and wants the power to cure any illness.

Princess Shokora

Princess Shokora (ショコラ姫, Shokora-hime) is a mythical princess who appears in Wario Land 4. She has a curse placed upon her by the Golden Diva that forces her to live in the body of a shape shifting black cat. Throughout the game, she helps Wario by selling him items prior to boss battles. After defeating the Golden Diva at the end of the game, the curse placed upon her is broken and she takes her true form, which varies depending on how many treasures Wario managed to obtain from the bosses.

Golden Diva

The Golden Diva is the main antagonist of Wario Land 4. She is a large, floating golden woman that was cursed by her own greed, turning her into a hideous monster. She wears a mask to conceal her true appearance. She is the one responsible for transforming Princess Shokora into a cat and stealing her treasure.

Black Jewel

The Black Jewel is the main antagonist of Wario World. It is an evil, brilliant-cut black gem that is motivated by greed. When Wario finds the Black Jewel, it destroys his castle and turns all of his treasure into monsters. When the black gem finally appears, it has one eye and several pink tentacles, and it attacks with fire and shockwaves.

Goodstyle

Goodstyle, known as Stickio (ステッキオ, Sutekkio) in Japan, is an ally of Wario in Wario: Master of Disguise. He is an animated wand that Wario steals from Count Cannoli. Goodstyle aids Wario by giving him advice and allowing him to transform into different costumes. During the game, it is revealed that Goodstyle was the first member of the Cannoli family who sealed the evil Terrormisu into the Wishstone. Goodstyle then transformed himself into a powerful wand to aid a warrior in defeating Terrormisu. After Wario reassembles the pieces of the Wishstone and defeats Terrormisu, Goodstyle gives all of his treasure to Wario as thanks.

Count Cannoli

Count Cannoli, known as Aldente (アルデンテ, Arudente) in Japan, is an antagonist in Wario: Master of Disguise. He is a self-proclaimed "master thief", who is really no more than an amateur that is only able to accomplish anything while using Goodstyle's powers to become his alter-ego, the Silver Zephyr. After Wario steals the wand, Cannoli's only means of fighting back are a variety of gadgets and machines that he has designed. Once he discovers that Wario is trying to hunt down the pieces of the Wishstone, Cannoli remembers that it is his family's duty to keep them apart, and begins dogging Wario's heels even more closely, trying to keep the pieces away from him. Eventually, he is forced into an alliance with fellow thief and antagonist, Carpaccio, in an attempt to stop Wario.

Carpaccio

Carpaccio (カルパッチョ, Karupatcho) is the main antagonist in Wario: Master of Disguise. He is a brilliant chemist who runs the company known as Sigil Securities. However, he uses his knowledge of security systems and science for evil, becoming a true master thief with the aid of his mind and his money. The Carpaccios, having worked with the Cannoli family for generations, also have a duty to keep the Wishstone from combining. Eventually, he is forced into an alliance with fellow thief and antagonist Cannoli in an attempt to stop Wario.

Terrormisu

Terrormisu, known as Margherita (マルゲリータ, Marugerīta) in Japan, is an evil demon who once exploited a Pharaoh's greed to destroy an entire civilization. She is sealed into the Wishstone by Goodstyle long before the events of Wario: Master of Disguise take place. As Wario collects the pieces of the Wishstone during the game, Terrormisu spots her chance, and is able to project her image into the real world once Wario passes by a volcano that happens to be a nexus of dark power. She takes the form of a young mysterious woman, calling herself "Tiaramisu" to trick Wario into thinking she is friendly. Once Wario collects all the fragments of the Wishstone, she transforms into a larger more beautiful form of her herself which resembles Princess Peach. During the battle, she wears three different masks, representing different emotions. When Wario nearly defeats her, her larger form becomes pudgier and less like Peach. After collecting all of the pieces of the Wishstone, she is able to escape, but is soon defeated by Wario. Her true form is a skinny, demonic shadow creature that tricked a king into ruining his kingdom as consequence for gaining all wealth in the world.

Shake King

The Shake King is the leader of the Bandineroes, a gang of pirates who inhabit the dimension Yuretopia. In Wario Land: The Shake Dimension. the Shake King abducts Queen Merelda and her Merfles, taking the Bottomless Coin Sack, a mystical sack which can produce an unlimited amount of coins, as well. If Wario collects all the Boss Tokens, he can battle the Shake King and rescue Queen Merelda and Merfles, along with the Bottomless Coin Sack.

WarioWare series

9-Volt

9-Volt (ナインボルト, Nainboruto) is a young Nintendo fanatic, owning everything ever made by Nintendo. 9-Volt's microgames are all microgame versions of Nintendo video games. He lives at home with his mother, 5-Volt, and his pet Fronk, called 'Shag'.

18-Volt

18-Volt (エイティーンボルト, Eitīnboruto) is 9-Volt's best friend, and a fan of video games. He is large, but despite his size, he goes to Diamond Elementary School, as does 9-Volt. His other defining trait is the boom box he always carries; his loud music gets him into trouble on his first day of school, although he soon finds an admirer in 9-Volt. In WarioWare: Touched!, 18-Volt speaks only the word "Word", but in other games, he speaks normally.

Ashley

Ashley (アシュリー, Ashurī) is a witch in training who lives in a mansion in Diamond City with a little demon named Red. She first appeared in Touched!, then returned in Smooth Moves. She is very emotionless and rarely smiles. She is largely uninterested in activities unrelated to improving her witchcraft; such tasks are typically relegated to Red.

Ashley's Theme can also be heard in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, with the song's vocals provided by Emily McIntosh, Terry Lauber, and James Cowan but is not a playable character. It can be heard on the WarioWare stage.

Dribble and Spitz

Dribble (ドリブル, Doriburu) and Spitz (スピッツ, Supittsu) are two developers who speak with Bronx accents. They also work as cabbies, and their cab, which was designed by Dr. Crygor, has the ability to go anywhere. Dribble is a large anthropomorphic bulldog with red hair. He is large, burly, and seems gruff, but he is actually quite calm and friendly. Spitz is a yellow anthropomorphic cat. He is always squinting and wears goggles.

Dr. Crygor

Dr. Crygor (Dr.クライゴア, Dokutā Kuraigoa) is a quirky scientist whose inventions include his cryogenic suit, Mike, the karaoke robot that would "solve all his cleaning needs", and the Kelerometer diet machine. He is a hundred years old, and the grandfather of Penny Crygor. In WarioWare: Touched, he accidentally gets caught in his latest invention and is fused with an apple, resulting in red accents to his costume, as well as a full helmet. These changes remain for part of WarioWare: Smooth Moves.

Fronk

Fronk is a strange, blocky, yellow species of creatures. They appear constantly throughout all the WarioWare games, both in microgames and cutscenes. 9-Volt apparently even keeps one of them as a pet, calling it "Shag". In the Japanese version, these creatures were known as Pixies, and the individual character was called Shaggy. In addition to several varieties of yellow Pixies, there are also red and blue varieties; their faces vary individually from each other. They are also apparently very small, as they are usually depicted getting stomped on, crushed, eaten, or kicked. Their sizes range from the size of a human toe to smaller than a penny. Their microgames (which rarely appear but have their own section) in WarioWare: Twisted! are very short, lasting half the time of a normal microgame.

Jimmy P.

Jimmy P. (ジミーP., Jimī Pī) looks exactly like Jimmy T. with the exception of his yellow afro and Hawaiian shirt. He attends the Club Spice. He eventually meets Jimmy T. at the end of his story.

Jimmy T.

Jimmy T. (ジミーT., Jimī Tī) is a man with a large blue afro wig, who is a disco dancing fanatic to the point that sometimes he will do so involuntarily, citing that the rhythm makes him do it. Jimmy is always seen frequenting hot Diamond City night spots, particularly Club Sugar (Club Sato in Japan). Since WarioWare: Twisted, Jimmy has been seen frequenting with members of his family, who apparently love dancing as much as he does. They include his parents, Papa T. and Mama T., and his brother and sister, James T. and Jamie T. He is also protrayed as a kind person and sort of an animal lover in WarioWare: Smooth Moves, where he is seen lending his umbrella to a cat.

Kat and Ana

Kat (カット, Katto) & Ana (アナ) are kindergarten-aged ninja twins. Kat has pink hair with a single ponytail, while Ana has red-orange hair with two ponytails. Ana is timid, while Kat is a bit more bossy and overall the dominant sister, though she cares for Ana deeply. The two live in an old-fashioned Japanese-style house in a forest. The two are descended from the Iga ninja clan, and attend Mystical Ninja Elementary. They have four pets: Don the Sparrow, Shadow the Dog, Shuriken the Falcon, and Nunchuck the Monkey.

Kat & Ana make a cameo appearance in Super Smash Bros. Brawl as Assist Trophy characters and regular trophies.

Their name is a pun on "katana" (Kat and Ana). They are a parody of the popular manga series Naruto.

Mike

Mike (マイク, Maiku) is a character who was introduced in WarioWare: Touched! In the game, he hosts a section devoted entirely to blowing into the microphone on Nintendo DS. Mike is a karaoke robot made by Dr. Crygor. Despite being a robot built for karaoke, the slightly mad doctor programs him to be a cleaning robot. Eventually, he overrides his cleaning program with his karaoke program by blowing on a pile of dust.

A version of Mike's Song from WarioWare: Touched! can be randomly obtained during brawls in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. It plays on the WarioWare stage.

Mona

Mona (モナ) is a high school student with a different part-time job in each game. Mona is quite adventurous and culturally savvy. She thinks Wario is always one degree ahead of cool (revealing she likes him). She always seems to be late to whatever she is going, and often speeds on her scooter to make up for lost time. Her former occupations include working at a gelato shop, pizza delivery, bassist, and cheerleader. A 'theme song' of Mona Pizza can be heard on WarioWare from Super Smash Brothers Brawl.

Orbulon

Orbulon (オービュロン, Ōbyuron) is a superintelligent alien that has difficulty with the English language. His IQ is 300, and he is over two thousand years old. Orbulon first wishes to conquer Earth, but after crash-landing on the planet, he settles in to life on Earth and stops his mission of conquest. It is also said in the Mega Party Game$ booklet that he wears anti-gravity cleats.

Penny Crygor

Penny Crygor (ペニー・クライゴア, Penī Kuraigoa) was introduced in WarioWare: Smooth Moves. She is the granddaughter of Dr. Crygor and dreams of becoming a great scientist. She also has a hidden desire to become a singer. She is seen in the game to have a part time job as a cake baker/decorator. Penny sees her grandfather as an excellent scientist, though she also recognizes his eccentric nature.

Pyoro

Pyoro is a character that has his own game in almost every WarioWare game, each Pyoro title varying in style . The original Pyoro game was Wario's inspiration to found WarioWare, Inc. Pyoro resembles a round bird with a white belly and short wings, and a very stretchy tongue. Pyoro is a parody of the Japanese anime character called Kyoro-Chan, a Morinaga Chocolate Mascot in Japan. Moreover, Pyoro has a similar body and build as Kyoro-Chan.

Tiny Wario

Tiny Wario (ちびワリオ, Chibi Wario) are a group of small Warios formed after Penny Crygor gives Wario a special motorcycle as a present. When Wario rides it, he shrinks and disappears into it, soon after being spat out of the exhaust pipe in the form of multiple Tiny Warios. They all have yellow jumpsuits, brunnete tufts of hair, and appear to have no mouth. The Tiny Warios can re-gather to turn back into a fully-sized Wario. Tiny Warios are also infatuated with strawberries.

Wario-Man

Wario-Man (ワリオマン) is an alter-ego of Wario that is formed after being tossed into Dr. Crygor's Gravitator while checking up on Crygor's production of WarioWare: Twisted! systems. He transforms again in WarioWare: Touched! after eating bad garlic with the hopes of curing himself. Wario-Man is also Wario's Final Smash in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, during which all his attacks are powered up in different ways.

Young Cricket

Young Cricket (ヤングクリケット, Yangu Kuriketto) is first introduced in WarioWare: Smooth Moves. He has flowing dark hair and a blue outfit. He practices martial arts and trains with his master, Master Mantis. He and his master travel all over looking for new forms.
