The Seasteading Institute is an organization that seeks to establish independence from government through the organization of society on seaborne platforms operating in international waters. Peter Thiel has pledged $500,000 to this organization. Patri Friedman is the Institute's Executive Director, having left his job as a Google engineer on July 29th 2008 to work full-time on the project.
