Gothic music is a term applied to any type of music stemming from the goth subculture, a contemporary subculture which itself emerged with the advent of gothic rock in England durng the late 1970s.
List of specifically gothic genres
Modern gothic culture is known to have musically developed from, with and through the following genres, to which can be applied the term "gothic":
While other genres of music exist that have ben influenced by the goth subculture, such as Gothic metal and Dark ambient, these genres cannot be traced back to the original line of musical development within the goth scene.
